It looks like the girls have been gifted with another prestigious award.
Beginning with their successful debut in Japan earlier in the year, the girls have since been working tirelessly to spread their music to audiences around the world. Within the last 6 months, Girls’ Generation have taken their talents across the globe, visiting cities like Paris, Bangkok, Sydney and New York for highly successful KPOP and SMTown concerts. Not only did they perform abroad, but they also promoted worldwide surprising everyone with the release of “The Boys” single in both Korean and English.
With such success and international exposure, Girls’ Generation will be awarded with the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award at the 2011 Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards.
This award is particularly special because it is handed out by the Korean government. The particular branch of the government behind the Awards is the Korea Content Creative Agency (KOCCA) which was established to provide support for the growth of cultural content. KOCCA specifically noted Girls’ Generation’s strong album sales as one of the reasons for their selection. Since their album release late last month, “The Boys” has already sold more than 200,000 copies.
This will be SNSD’s first win at the Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards, and they will be the only KPOP group this year to receive the coveted “Prime Minister’s Award” for 2011.
The 2011 Korean Popular Culture and Arts Award ceremony will be held on November 21, 2011 at Seoul Olympic Hall. Girls’ Generation will be performing live alongside other Hallyu powerhouses Wonder Girls, BEAST, Taeyang and Afterschool.
Look forward to their upcoming performance and congratulations to the girls!
