An Early Gift For SONEs This Christmas

That’s right, the season of Christmas is almost upon us and Kwangdong Pharmaceuticals, one of the biggest commercial K-SONEs of our 9 beloved ladies, has decided to gift SONEs everywhere withsome beautiful Soshi-imagery.That’s right, the SONEs running the advertising component of the company for their Vita500 vitamin energy drink product recently released 2 sets of Christmas-themed images featuring our favourite 9 ladies decked-out in the latest Christmas fashions.

Personally, I feel that this is one of the best sets of Soshi images to come out from the company this year, because all 9 look simply gorgeous here ;) ! Whatever your bias, I am pretty sure that you will be able to find just that right Soshi image to dress-up your computer screen for this coming holiday season :D .

Tiffany may be my favourite, but I feel that both Sooyoung and Hyoyeon look simply adorable here (don’t you just love their bright and cheerful smiles :) ) !

Tidbits from Girls’ Generation’s ‘Star Life Theater’

Yuri, who is known for her workout regimen, including her habit of doing 600 sit-ups every day, once again had her physical training featured, this time on KBS2′s “Star Life Theater” on November 24th. A member of the gym Girls Fitness, Yuri was shown going there after hours due to her schedule. She commented that during Girls’ Generation’s Japan Arena Tour over the summer, breathing inside the hot venues was difficult, but she was able to handle it because of her training.

The episode on the 24th also showed scenes of the girls participating in a fansigning event.

The girls have also attracted attention with their full gluttony despite their perfect figures.

In the episode broadcast on November 23rd, the girls revealed their easygoing daily lives outside the TV screen.

On this day, the girls cheered at the sight of food bought by one of the staff while preparing for a music program in the green room. They replenished their energies by eating enthusiastically, and showed a vigorous desire for food.

The members said, “There’s always a buffet in Girls’ Generation’s green room. The manager oppas work really hard.” At this, the VJ asked if they go on diets. The girls replied, “No we don’t. If we think that we gained weight, we just control what we eat, but we need to eat to work.” With this, they showed a free and easy attitude.

On the other hand, Tiffany attracted attention by practicing very hard for her first musical. She received many favorable comments from viewers after this episode revealed her practicing for her upcoming musical for 12 hours a day, in addition to working earnestly as a singer.

Tiffany also spoke of her drifting relationship with her father, as she tearfully shared some of the difficulties she has had.

Through the show, she admitted that she has become distant with her father ever since she went to Korea to be a singer. Tiffany said, “I was sixteen years old eight years ago when I first came to Korea. I was at the peak of my wandering adolescent age, and it was two years after my mother passed away.”

Tiffany mentioned how she came to choose this career path. “During that adolescent period of my life, music was the only thing that made me happy.” However, her father was opposed to Tiffany becoming a singer. On this, Tiffany said, “In honesty, my relationship with my father drifted a lot while I’ve been working as a singer. It’s been a long time since we’ve talked, and now that I think about it, I have never spent much time with him at all,” and spilled the tears she was trying to fight back.

Tiffany kept wiping her tears as she said, “It’s been almost eight years since I came here and…it’s upsetting.”

Also on the 23rd, Hyoyeon showed her professionalism and her maturity. Hyoyeon was recently chosen as a fixed cast member on KBS2’s “Invincible Youth 2″ along with Sunny. Perhaps because of the nerves that came with filming the second episode (Editor’s Note: the article says first episode), she was having such a rough time that she even skipped lunch. However, she said in front of the production crew, “I don’t think it’s indigestion,” and put on a bit of a smile.

Before going back to filming, Boom cheered her up by saying, “Don’t be sick,” and also encouraged her. He said, “Hyoyeon has something strong in her heart. I respect and admire that about her. I’m just expressing as a fan my respect for her when I see her overcome difficulties while being active in Girls’ Generation and constantly improving herself in every album.”

The cast then went to the mud flats where Hyoyeon tried her best and did not hold herself back even though she was not feeling well, showing how passionate she is.

When Hyoyeon was interviewed, she expressed her intentions and once again showed her professionalism when she replied, “How can you always be clean when you work? When I’m on stage like for Music Bank, I strive for perfection because I have to show the best I can be as a singer. But right now, I’m here to work so all I can do is think positively and put in my best effort.”

Girls’ Generation has won the Global Artist Award at 2011 MelOn Music Awards.

Yes I Can: Tiffany’s Interview With Singles Magazine

After stepping onto Korean soil at the age of fifteen with her dream of becoming a singer, the once young girl, Tiffany, is now standing in front of the camera as a 23-year old woman. Throughout the interview, Tiffany’s sparkling eyes seemed like they were saying “I’m a person that’s ready to do anything at any time”, and “I’m really happy right now”.

One sunshine-filled Monday afternoon after the weary rainy season, Tiffany walked into the studio in a cheerful mood with her just shampooed, slightly wet hair, wearing shorts. The awkward atmosphere quickly became congenial after someone handed Tiffany macaroons as a gift for her recently past birthday. This is her first solo shoot since their debut four years ago. The staff is just as nervous and excited about how much fun Tiffany will have on a stage prepared just for her, the star of the shoot. “I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. I was worried about the concept of ‘rock-chic’ not suiting me, but I think I can pull it off!” People say to always keep a bright and cheerful person close, as positive energy is highly contagious. About ten minutes into our meeting, you could tell Tiffany was just that type of person. After the long five-hour photoshoot we moved to a quiet sofa in the studio for the interview. While it’s expected for her to be tired, Tiffany smiled while telling about things she likes and any thoughts she had in her head. She said, “I don’t cry when I’m upset anymore. If I look up ahead, everything’s okay. Just thinking about a new world opening up as I keep growing makes my heart flutter!” 23-year old Tiffany is steadily planning her future. She was so pretty and loveable that at the end of the interview the editor gave her a thumbs up subconsciously.

When did you start dreaming of becoming a singer? When did you start to realize your talent, or when did others start acknowledging it? How?
-When I was little, I never thought I was exceptionally good at singing or dancing. However, before I came to Korea, I realized that I liked and had a knack for singing and dancing. Even my brother, who is stingy with compliments, told me, “You’re good at singing,” so I gained more confidence. Since then, I didn’t think about following any other route and only dreamed of becoming a singer. Something I thought of at that time, and after actually experiencing it, is “No one can beat a person who tries their best.”

What efforts did you put into fulfilling your dream of becoming a singer? How well did you think a career as a singer would suit you, and what do you think now?
-We recently finished fourteen concerts for our Japan Arena Tour. Each went on for three hours, and 30 songs later I thought “I’m the type of person that has to stand on stage.” The preparation process was tiring and you could get a lot of stress from it, but my members and I never lost our happiness. When we get on stage all my tiredness disappears. As soon as I stand on stage I feel like “this is my place.” While our tiring Japan promotions continued on, I got a chance to look back on all the promotions we did in Korea before, and it made me think “I was too young.” I’m looking forward to activities in Korea more than ever now that I’ve gained the confidence to do even better.

I’m sure you’re happy being Girls’ Generation, but I think competitions on looks would be intense within the group. Are there any times where you feel pressure with the nine members?
-To be honest, as surprising as it may seem, we have absolutely no competition for looks. We pick out each others’ prettiest parts. We’ll tell each other “You’ve gained weight”, or “You look prettier with your hair up.” In one word, we just enjoy it. We want each other to be pretty, and we encourage one another. That’s the truth, so I hope you believe me. Hahaha.

Girls’ Generation’s impeccable choreography is fantastic. How hard did you work on it? I don’t assume practices always go well. Was there a time where you got upset because a dance wouldn’t work?
-There are times where it doesn’t work, but there’s only one way to overcome it; doing it until it does work. Because Hyoyeon is the most talented in dancing in the group, I beg her to teach me until she gets fed up. I just do it again and again until I get it.

Do you think you’ve become a lady? When do you feel “I’ve really matured”?
-I think I’ve matured when I feel that I have eyes that look beyond what I’m actually seeing. Also, when I look at the team’s youngest members, Yoona and Seohyun, and see how mature and feminine their preferences have become, I realize how much we’ve grown.

Were there any electrifying moments you experienced recently that made you nervous? It could be something that happened on stage, or perhaps meeting your ideal type.

-I don’t have any experiences of getting butterflies from seeing someone of the opposite sex. I think the most exhilarating moment is when I step off stage after a concert. Our fourteen concerts in Japan and our solo concert in Korea! I feel proud just thinking about it. I was able to realize how solid Girls’ Generation has become, completing such a great amount of concerts. Senior singers always said, “A singer has to have a concert to become a real singer”, and I think I understand what they mean now.

Do you have a method for discovering pretty expressions or hair styles that suit you?
-During group or solo shoots, rather than trying to look pretty, I want to make expressions that have feeling behind it. I can’t pretend 100% of the time and will have to try harder from now on, but my role models are designer Coco Rosa and Dutch model Doutzen Kroes. For reference, I think I’m the prettiest when I’m singing. I think I’m prettiest when I’m happy. I particularly like comfortable, yet girly clothes. I style myself depending on my mood that day, but looking at photos that I take, and ones of me that were taken by others, I felt that I’ve been choosing clothes that are noticeably more feminine compared to my members. Of course, for shoots that are more chic like today’s, I try my best to make use of wild expressions and poses I’ve seen in fashion magazines.

You’ve become noticeably slimmer and prettier. Do you have any special methods of caring for your skin and body?
-If there’s a concert coming up, I eat a lot better than usual, so my happy expressions are delivered as is. However, if I’m MC-ing or have to wear a dress for a schedule, I drink a lot of water for a few days prior and control my weight. I eat three light meals regularly. I estimate how much I eat in day, calculate the calories, and adjust from there. Only when I feel I need to manage my weight! Some people say, “If you want to lose weight, eat a lot for breakfast, a little for lunch, and starve for dinner.” I think there’s a higher chance of failing because you usually get the urge to eat in the evening. It works best for me to have a smaller breakfast and eat a little more for dinner to match my daily calorie intake. There isn’t anything I do in particular to take care of my skin. I pay attention to my makeup on stage, but I usually just apply sunscreen to my bare face and wear glasses. I try to drink a lot of water for moisture. I carry around a water bottle and drink from it while I’m on the move. I try to have a high dietary fiber intake. There’s nothing better than that. Seohyun’s such a healthy girl. She takes care of all her unnies’ health, too.

You can’t leave out diverse concepts, fashion, and hair when it comes to Girls’ Generation. Which style did you think made you look the prettiest?
-I attempted many different outfit concepts as a Girls’ Generation member, and there were a lot of really pretty clothes and styles. If I had to choose one out of them, it would have to be the jeans and white t-shirt fashion from “Gee”. I personally like wearing jeans and a white t-shirt, so I think I was prettiest during our “Gee” promotions. I do like showy clothes, but I think that concept had the most cheerful, innocent, and girl-like appeal.

You’re always bright and energetic on stage. Do you have a way of hiding when you’re sick or not in a good mood on stage?
-People say I’m the most energetic member of the group. I try to always greet people brightly and live happily, but there are times where my mood drops. But, the moment I feel I have a God-given talent is the moment I get on stage. Surprisingly, when I stand on stage, I forget about my body not being in its best condition, or about being in a bad mood. I don’t have to hide it because I get on stage and my mind forgets on its own.

You’re at the age to draw out a great guy. Is there an ideal type you dream of?
-I never drew out my ideal type in detail. I actually don’t think I’ve thought about it much at all. I can vaguely recall a guy that has a pretty smile and can make me laugh. Especially a guy that can love me as much as I love him.

What type of relationships do you want to have in the future?
-Because I have feminine taste, I also like relationship styles that are romantic. I think I’d like to have cute and pretty relationships.

Is there a fashion brand you particularly like? What are some clothes or accessories you like wearing?
-Prada’s colors this season are really pretty. The vivid pastel colors captured my heart. Prada’s blue, in particular, made me fall in love, when I don’t even like blue. Aside from wearing new clothes through stage outfits, for CFs, and photoshoots, my personal style gives off a romantic, cute feel. Of course, I don’t go for clothes that are uncomfortable, even if it’s pretty. Comfortable and pretty clothes are the best. I wear a lot of accessories. Long, hanging earrings have been looking really pretty to me lately. If you choose the right earrings, your face can look slimmer. I also like shoes. If the outfit is simple, I wear booties or pumps.

There were mistakes and suffering, but no matter what anyone says, you’re Tiffany, a proud member of Girls’ Generation. What will you do to defend your name from now on?
-Recently, while my members and I were talking, I said, “We’ve already come this far. I’m proud.” When I first came to Korea at the age of fifteen, I was looking forward to a lot of things, and I worked hard. Really hard. Now that I think about a new world opening up as I continue to grow, it makes my heart flutter. Because I’m such an optimist, rather than being afraid of the future, I’m anticipating it. The first goal I had when I was younger was for Girls’ Generation to receive a great amount of love, and that’s been reached. I’m going to try to plan a new goal, looking further ahead.

I’m sure you want to try acting in a drama or film, or take an attempt in a different field.
-Up until now, the group Girls’ Generation’s charm was magnified, but each member has their own talents and charms, and I think each of us will be able to show even more from now on. I want to think of it as launching a Tiffany brand under the Girls’ Generation brand, and come out naturally.

Is there a wish you want granted?
-I’m extremely satisfied with Girls’ Generation’s activities alone, but I want to try and succeed in other areas. My hope is to try acting, do a musical, and work in fashion. Today’s shoot was also really fun. I think the work of putting on various styles for a photoshoot is always fun. I take part in drafting Girls’ Generation’s stage outfits, and I study a lot by looking through fashion magazines. I’ve had a lot of interest in fashion since I was younger, and I’m especially happy when picking pretty, girly dresses. I’m happy that because I’m a girl, I’m able to attempt numerous style transformations with various makeups and attire. My goal is to plan a happy future while doing things I can and want to do. I’m a person that’s ready to do anything at any time!

The College Life of Yuri, Sooyoung and Seohyun Is Revealed on ‘Star Life Theater’

The college life of Yuri and Sooyoung was revealed on the show “Star Life Theater” that was broadcasted on November 21st on KBS2TV. Yuri and Sooyoung, who both major in Theatre and Film at Chungang University, were captured on screen as normal college students. Scenes of them eating their meals inside a moving vehicle due to their particularly busy schedule, and them attending lectures and taking notes have attracted many peoples’ attentions. On the day of filming, they had confessed that, “I want to be like any other normal student who studies. When I don’t have classes, I want to walk around the school without any thoughts and get something to eat on the way”, and “We want to do the same things that regular students do at our age”.

On the other hand, the college life of Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun was also revealed in the show.

Girls’ Generation’s maknae, who is a sophomore majoring in Theater at Dongkook University, dropped the stage name to return to being called Seo Joohyun; an ordinary college student.

As she goes off trying her best not to miss a class, Seohyun shows off her fresh charms as she replaces her usually elegant and chic attire for a more casual look.  Complimenting her laid-back outfit, she talks with an easy-going attitude as she is seen talking informally with her peers, which is quite unusual to hear, as she speaks formally when conversing with the other Girls’ Generation members.

Her complaint asking “Did you buy our album?” to a male classmate who had asked about girl group 2NE1′s new album, as well as continuous chatting with her classmates, produced a fun and vibrant lunch time that caught others’ eyes.

Meanwhile, Professor Shin Yeonsup of the Theater Department of Dongkook University praised Seohyun saying, “Seohyun has a much bigger desire for higher education when compared to her peers.  She has a serious attitude”, as well as, “Her attitude on learning is so honest that it’s even old-fashioned. I think she believes that school takes a higher precedence over entertainment activities. I am proud.”

Girls’ Generation’s ‘The Boys’ Now on VEVO

Girls’ Generation’s English version of “The Boys” was originally released on October 19th, 2011 on SMTOWN’s YouTube channel. Soon after the release, the video was blocked due to the girls getting their own official VEVO channel on YouTube. On November 22nd, 2011, the video was unblocked for public view.

Due to the different languages, the angle shots in the English version differed slightly in comparison to the Korean version. The solo shots were adjusted accordingly to the language.  The main chorus was, for the most part, unchanged.

The Korean version of “The Boys” has been a huge success, with close to twenty million views since its release one month ago. The Japanese versions of “Gee”, “Genie”, “MR. TAXI”, and “Run Devil Run” are also uploaded onto their VEVO channel.

Meanwhile, the  maxi single that was planned to be released on November 19th has been delayed. However, there has been no official announcement from SM Entertainment. Stay tuned to Soshi Site 9 for the latest information.

2011 Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards

SNSD were awarded with the prestigious Prime Minister’s Commendation Award at the 2011 Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards ceremony. Among the many recipients, they were the only K-Pop idol group to receive this particular award.
The ceremony, which was held on November 21, is sponsored by the Korean government and recognises Korean artists who have made a significant impact on the development and advancement of Korean popular culture and arts. Among those awarded for their contributions, SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man was also presented with the Cultural Content Merit.
Along with performances by other K-pop artists including Beast, Wonder Girls and After School, SNSD performed their hit song “The Boys” at the show. Unfortunately, Yoona was not present to perform or accept the award presumably due to filming commitments.

Girls’ Generation Appears at Woongjin Coway Concert Event

As the models for Woongjin Coway, Girls’ Generation attended an event held by Coway called “Coway, Please Take Care of Mom Tonight” on November 17th at Yangjaedong L Tower. Appearing alongside Girls’ Generation were Jang Hyejin and Kim Bumsoo, who handed out a few roses to people in the crowd.

Girls’ Generation performed a few of their hit songs which included “Gee”, “Oh”, “Genie”, and their most recent single “The Boys”. However, during their performance of “The Boys”, the girls weren’t able to hold their laughter as the static electricity inside the building caused their hair to stick out all over the place. The girls could be seen trying to push down their hair, but to no avail. In particular, there were several pictures of Sunny’s hair sticking up wildly while Taeyeon desperately tried to hold in her laughter and continue performing. While Taeyeon did manage to sing all of her parts, she did not manage to dance all of the choreography.

During this event some of the people were able to share stories of their mothers with Girls’ Generation, which caused several members to tear up as they remembered their own families. A small interview was also held in which attendees got to ask the girls questions. Kim Shinyoung, a long time friend of the girls, was the emcee for this interview. One of the questions asked about the girls’ cooking abilities. Sooyoung replied that most of the girls cook pretty well with the exception of Jessica. Yoona added that Jessica is an ok cook, but she can’t control her portions well, to which Jessica responded, “I’m generous cook.” causing much laughter at the event. The next question asked was: “What can you cook the best?”. Tiffany said that she could make sandwiches the best. However, being the “shikshin” of the group, Sooyoung had a different opinion stating that, “Tiffany’s sandwiches aren’t really sandwiches. Normally you would add vegetables, ham, and cheese, but she only adds ham,” much to Tiffany’s chagrin. Another question that was asked was: “Who dreams the biggest?”, to which everyone unanimously picked Seohyun. Yoona mentioned how Seohyun would always think about the future, and Seohyun would go on to explain how she’s accomplishing a lot of goals through Girls’ Generation and K-Pop.

To end the “Coway, Please Take Care of Mom Tonight” event, the girls sang “Dear Mom” and dedicated it to all mothers.

Like Twins: Taeyeon and Sunny’s Interview with Singles Magazine

We asked Taeyeon and Sunny, who are known to be closer than no other from living as roommates for a long time, to show us something denser than love; their friendship. They must have been shy about this type of set-up, and were looking after one another a lot off camera.

The Republic of Korea’s national treasure-like girl group, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and Sunny have arrived at the studio after completing their last television schedule. Taeyeon wore skinny pants with a light knit and flat shoes, while Sunny wore jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. Unless you look really hard, they would have looked like fresh high school students. It’s true that they were a bit tired and sensitive these days, as it was right before the release of their official album. However, they greeted the staff members first by saying, “It’s really nice to meet you!” and also showed their characteristic “euhehehe” laugh. As roommates, Taeyeon and Sunny are two members who are known for having a tight friendship within Girls’ Generation. Their looking after one another continued on during their stay in the studio. While they were eating, the two sat together as if they were high school students sharing their meals. After eating, the two disappeared for a moment and soon walked out from the bathroom, giggling while shaking the water from their toothbrushes. They also walked so energetically! When they were walking to the makeup rooms they looked like generals returning from a victory. They looked trustworthy and cute, making me laugh inside. Despite their petite sizes, the two members have pretty good proportions. After about an hour, they stood in front of the camera wearing one-pieces, and had their hair and makeup done to make them look like twins. The two looked pretty and lovely like dolls, making the staff members go “Wow”. This type of situation must have been awkward and embarrassing for them, and they looked at one another’s transformation, saying “Whoa~”, while touching each other’s clothes, displaying a heartwarming sight.

The shoot ended smoothly, and because of the time, the interview was started right away. While they could have laid against the soft sofa to rest, the two had their backs straight, not showing a hint of dishevelment. More than just worrying about watchful eyes, it seems it was because of the members having lived as idols for many years. When told, “Lean back comfortably against the sofa,” they just replied, “Oh my, I must be more nervous than I thought? Hehehe.” The interview finally started, “How does it feel living as a Girls’ Generation member?” The two members were surprised at the groundless question and passed it over with a laugh, but the awkwardness ended there. To the editor’s advice, “Everyone~ Right now is the best moment, you have to enjoy it to the fullest!” They replied, “I know what you mean! I need to put on the makeup I like and go out to experience my popularity, hahaha,” and slapped their knees. Soon, Taeyeon and Sunny became the stars of the interview. They would giggle at times while they would clap and yell “That’s right! That’s right!” at the other’s response. Their natural gestures were evidence enough that they were enjoying their time right now.

Taeyeon, Sunny! The teaser for the long awaited official album has been gaining lots of attention. With the album release coming up, how do you feel?
-Taeyeon: Half of me wonders what people will think of our album, while the other half of me is worried. There should be responses out by the time this interview is published right? I’m nervous. It’s our first album in a year, and because it’s an album that Korean fans have been waiting for such a long time, I think the interest for it will be just as great. To be honest, we didn’t have any time to rest, having started Japan promotions right after our promotions in Korea ended, but our hiatus will be felt greatly by Korean fans.

-Sunny: Girls’ Generation has shown girly, lovely images a lot, but this time we’re planning on showing more diverse images. I think we’ll be able to show various images of a cool girl with our singing and style.

It’s now fall. Does the change of seasons affect the girls?
-Taeyeon: A lot, hahaha. That’s why I’ve been feeling a bit sentimental lately. I start listening to music late into the night and fall asleep wearing my earphones. I also cry while listening to music. I try to search for many different artists’ music, but I’ve been listening to a lot of J-Pop lately.

-Sunny: I don’t think it affects me too much. I think “I” affect myself the most, hahaha. But, as it is autumn, I listen to ballads like Taeyeon.

Out of Girls’ Generation’s members, Taeyeon and Sunny have been roommates for a long time. It seems like the two of you are becoming alike. Do you realize it, too?

-Taeyeon: I think Sunny and I were able to be roommates for so long because of our similar styles. Our mindset of making one another feel comfortable, and if the other person is comfortable then I’m good, is similar. If the other person is comfortable, then I would bear with my uncomfortablness. Because we are considerate of one another, we were able to live without any trouble. I don’t like red bean while Sunny does, so we can share boongeobbang (bread in the shape of a fish with a red bean filling), and Sunny likes curry, while I don’t, so we don’t even fight over food.

-Sunny:
I don’t know the reason, but I think we just get along. I think we’re completely used to one another and are becoming alike after having eaten, slept, and lived together for such a long time.

What do you do when something doesn’t go your way? I imagine you have some know-how’s now.

-Taeyeon: Other than self control, there isn’t any other method. Before, I wouldn’t express anything to members and keep things to myself, but now I try to talk things out with my members and managers. I think the best way to work things out for girls is through chatting.

-Sunny:
I think I have a cold personality. When I look at myself, I see a lot more flaws. If I’m in a bad mood, I feel like I’d become pessimistic, so I go into fan sites that only look at me positively on purpose. Because it’s a place where fans even look at the flaws I see as something good.

Tell me any of your beauty tips. Taking care of your skin, weight, or your role model is good, too.

-Taeyeon: It’s best to treat a blemish as soon as you see it. However, if I’m busy, I can’t find time to do that, so I’m sad. At home, I use facial packs to provide moisture every morning and evening. I recently promoted for a long time with short hair, but I’m trying to grow it out now. I want to match the autumn mood and grow my hair out, hahaha. I’ve been interested in Gemma Ward’s, a model known for her baby face, style lately, and I have been paying close attention. Her style is clean and nice.

-Sunny:
Resting and not doing anything is the best way to take care of your body and skin. The treatment is not wearing any makeup and not giving your body a hard time. If I don’t have anything special going on, I don’t wear any makeup and go around wearing comfortable clothes. My mom once nagged at me because of that, hahaha. For styles, I study magazines and reviews consistently. If I find something I like, I save the photo and apply it. Unlike Taeyeon, I’ve been wanting to break out of my long hair lately. In order to show different styles, I’ve gotten perms and dyed my hair, so my hair is really damaged. I really want to try short hair because I’ve had long hair for such a long time.

Are there times where you think you look particularly pretty?

-Taeyeon: I think I look the best and natural before I sleep? Hohoho.

-Sunny:
Hm? When was it? I don’t think it’s when I clean off my makeup… Hahaha! I’m not sure. People always say my energetic appearance is cute.

What do you do during your alone time, or when you’re with your members?

-Taeyeon: I think not going out has become a habit. But, I go out when I really want to every now and then. When my purchase desire is at its peak, that’s when the splurge god appears, hahaha. I’m most interested in makeup and shoes. Sometimes I’ll go out alone to buy makeup or shoes from the mall. I usually browse trends and new products online, and use that information when I go shopping. I put on the makeup I bought when I get bored. I see if the color applies well, what color suits me, clean it off, and repeat, hahaha. I usually use the VOD service to watch TV shows at home.

-Sunny:
Playing with our members is more fun, and we have figured out many ways to have fun by ourselves. Because the majority of our members have their drivers license, we drive out to the Han River or go to the nail shop. I remember one time where Hyoyeon and I drove the car out to the river and struggled because we couldn’t park. There are so many people at the river! During my free time, I watch a lot of TV, but I watch the movie channel a lot. Because the VOD service has been improved lately, I am able to watch all the movies I want. We gather around to watch something, but there are lots of times where there isn’t anything to watch because we already have watched everything.

How does it feel living as a member of Girls’ Generation in the [Republic of] Korea?

-Taeyeon: Of course it’s nice and an honor, but it’s also a bit burdensome because there are so many watchful eyes. But it’s also true that we aren’t sure of just how popular we are because once we get off stage, all our time is spent together with the members. It’s only to the degree of thinking “This is how popular we are” when we see banners and hear fans’ cheers. I need to pretty myself up with the makeup I like and go out to enjoy myself. It’s a bit sad that I have to feel satisfied looking at myself in the mirror at home.

-Sunny:
There’s not a great sense of reality regarding our popularity because we don’t use Twitter or have mini homepages. It’s to the point where we say, “Hey, Soshi’s number one.” Of course, we are able to feel the love and attention from fans through concerts or other performances and events. I’m always thankful of everyone’s attention and think of them as the strength I need to do what I like to do. Although I can’t feel 100% of it, I try not to forget their love.

From a girl to a woman. Are there times where you feel you’ve really matured?

-Taeyeon:
I feel like I’ve matured when I have more self control than before. At times like that, I think “I’ve grown a lot”, and feel good about myself. Before, if there was something I did not like, I would hold in all my anger and cry in the car. Because my makeup can’t get erased, I would do so while wiping off the tears with a tissue, heukheukheuk. Then I would forget it, but now I’ve learned to look past most things.

-Sunny:
I feel proud of myself when I do things aggressively/enthusiastically. Things I do under my own initiative have increased, as opposed to doing things people tell me to do. I don’t get pulled around by other people’s suggestions, and have become my own man. Even when choosing a concept, I suggest my opinions enthusiastically, and know when I should just follow as well.

Is there a different area that you want to attempt? If there is, what, how, and when would you want to try it?

-Taeyeon: Hm… Something I consistently want to do is composing. Along with that, I want to sing, play an instrument, and properly do music. I also want to DJ again.

-Sunny:
I want to do a lot of various broadcast programs. Aside from that, I like creating new things, so I want to try producing. I realized this while preparing my concert performance, but it’s really fun creating my own stage and directing it. I didn’t have any time and didn’t know anything before, but I’ve been looking for music and taking part in directing myself and have found a new enjoyment. If you can’t balance the real world and imagination, you could get stressed out, but if you can control that, it’s a really fun job.

Lastly, is there anything you want to say to <Singles> readers who like Girls’ Generation?

-Taeyeon: I wonder what reader unnies like? Hahaha. Do us dongsaengs/younger sisters appear more cheerful and energetic for unnies to enjoy? Hahaha. Please look forward to us in the future.

-Sunny:
I think unnies will really like the image we will show for our upcoming promotions. A cool Girls’ Generation? A cool feel? Anyway, I think we’ll be able to show a new image of Girls’ Generation, so please look out for us.
