Girls' Generation Push Japanese Domination With 'Paparazzi,' 1 Million Albums Sold


Girls' Generation continues their path to global domination with a new Japanese single and a new chart accomplishment. The group, whom appears as Shojo Jidal on Japanese charts, rocketed to the No. 1 spot last week on the Japan Hot 100 with their high-energy Japanese track "Paparazzi" with sales now at 103,000, according to SoundScan Japan.

The dance song peppered with fun English phrases ("Life is a party!" "Punkadelic crazy night!" "Boom boom boom!") premiered back in mid-June. The debut came via an almost seven minute music video (currently with over 7.6 million views) and a dance-only video (at 4.1 million). Appropriately, the visual jumps between shots of rabid photographers and the girls dancing in perfect nine-piece synchronization. The video plays as a stage performance for Girls' Generation. The show begins with the members whimsically prancing to Gene Kelly's classic version of "Singin' In The Rain" before the real performance starts. In two different outfits, the girls perform their routine in movie-inspired getups incorporating eccentric costumes and even Marilyn Monroe's famous pink gloves.

The girls brought the film motif to their live performances which were spare most likely due to the group's many commitments outside of their music. Never the less, the girls still notched the top spot.

Girls' Generation latest chart accomplishment truly solidifies their leading of the K-pop girl group pack in Japan. Other popular groups like Kara, 2NE1, and After School have made attempts to break the lucrative industry to varying degrees of success.

With the additional 103,000 for "Paparazzi" Girls' Generation's total singles/download sales now stand at 645,000 (with their best selling track being "Gee" at 207,000) according to SoundScan Japan. The group's total album sales in Japan recently broke the million mark currently at 1,081,000 with the "Girl's Generation" record accounting for 715,000 of those sales.

The super-popular Wonder Girls have announced plans to infiltrate Japan this year. While they just released their latest English single with Akon, the quintet group could pose stiff competition. For now, though, Girls' Generation can enjoy life at the top.

Girls’ Generation’s YoonA earned $3.5 million USD in first half of 2012


On the July 12th broadcast of SBS E!s ‘K-STAR News’, Girls’ Generation member YoonA was revealed to be the girl group ‘center’ member, with the most profitable activities across various fields.

Girls’ Generation is currently in the lead when it comes to being considered the nation’s girl group. Yet even among all the members who have each achieved such great popularity, member YoonA has earned the greatest salary. On top of the payments she receives as an artist, YoonA has landed a total of 20 advertisement deals and also completed another drama. As a result, YoonA’s total income has exceeded 4 billion KRW (approx. $3.5 million US dollars) after just the first half of this year.

Aside from YoonA, other ‘center’ girl group members include miss A‘s Suzy, After School‘s UEE, KARA‘s Goo Hara, and Wonder GirlsSohee. These particular members act as multiplayers in the K-Pop idol industry, as they not only showcase their capabilities in singing and dancing, but also in acting and modeling.

Billboard.com Reports on ‘PAPARAZZI’ and Girls’ Generation’s Success in Japan



Billboard.com recently reported on Girls’ Generation’s new Japanese single, “PAPARAZZI”, which has proven to be yet another hit and continues to do well on music charts. In the article, Billboard.com summed up the girls’ incredible success in Japan by citing SoundScan Japan and noting that “PAPARAZZI” sales have so far reached 103,000 units sold, pushing Girls’ Generation’s total singles/download sales in Japan to 645,000. By selling over 100,000 copies, “PAPARAZZI” has also been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association in Japan (RIAJ). For the group’s total album sales in Japan, Girls’ Generation has reached another amazing milestone in their career: their total album sales in Japan recently surpassed the million mark and currently stands at 1,081,000 total sales.

The single itself had already done well on both the Tower Records “Daily Singles” chart and Oricon’s “Daily Singles” chart, with detailed statistics covered here. Girls’ Generation has kept the momentum going with “PAPARAZZI” sales still going very strong. “PAPARAZZI” was number one last week onBillboard’s Japan Hot 100 and still currently holds the number seven spot, demonstrating their ever-increasing popularity and presence in Japan’s music industry.

Girls’ Generation Voted As Female Idols With Best Bare Faces!


Girls’ Generation has been chosen by the staff and managers in showbiz as the female idols with best bare faces.

On July 10th, Show Champion revealed their survey on “Which female idol has the best bare face?” For a month, more than 100 managers, VJs, stage staff, audio staff and other staff were asked.

On the show, it was revealed Girls’ Generation placed first in the survey with staff giving comments such as “Girls’ Generation shines brighter on stage”, “Best beauty”, etc.

Meanwhile, other female idols who were also ranked in the survey includes AfterSchool, HelloVenus and f(x). The male idols with the best bare faces will be revealed on the July 17th episode of Show Champion.

On the other hand, Super Junior, After School, BaekChungGang, Hello Venus, Bohemian, Rhythm Power, F.I.X, Cross Gene, 2Bic, and RosyPP performed on Show Champion aired on July 10th.

Girls’ Generation, The World’s no.1 Role Model for Cover Dance Groups


After analyzing participants’ dance cover from 4/26 to 7/10, Visit Korea Year has announced the top 5 role models for cover dance groups on July 10th. Participants from more than 50 countries in 6 continents worldwide have registered for this event. Out of the 1350 groups registered, 155 teams covered Girls’ Generation’s choreography, putting the girls in the no.1 spot. SHINee was ranked second with 98 teams, Miss A came in third with 79 teams, Sistar in 4th with 75 teams, while 2NE1 took the 5th spot with 70 teams.

Girls’ Generation and SHINee are favorites among the participants from Asia, Europe, North and South America. TVXQ took first in Oceania and while Block B seems to be Africa’s favorite group. In addition, Sistar’s rising popularity despite not having any promotional activities outside Korea is garnering a lot of attention.

Girls’ Generation to Perform at ‘SBS K-Pop Super Concert’ in Los Angeles on August 10th


On August 10th, Girls’ Generation will be performing at the Home Depot Center, located near downtown Los Angeles, for the “SBS Super Concert in America”. The concert will be held at 8 PM PST, and Girls’ Generation will be joined by fellow K-Pop artists SECRET, SISTAR, CNBLUE, KARA, SHINee, MBLAQ, 2AM, and 2PM for a night sure to be filled with exciting performances.

Tickets for the concert will go on sale on Wednesday, July 18th, at 10 AM PST. Tickets can be purchased through the Home Depot Center box office, online at www.axs.com, or by calling AXS over the phone at 888-9AXS-TIX.

Organizers for the concert have also opened an official Facebook page for the event, which shows several video messages from the artists inviting fans to the concert.

Casio Releases BTS Video for ‘Baby G’ and Messages From Tiffany, Yoona, and Seohyun


Earlier today, Casio released their behind-the-scenes footage of Girls’ Generation’s “Baby G” wristwatches photoshoot as well as short video messages from Tiffany, Yoona, and Seohyun.

The two-minute video shows the behind-the-scenes footage for both the group and individual shots. The video begins with the nine girls in their sport jerseys, posing for their group picture. It then moves on to the individual scenes, where each girl endorses a different watch. The girls could be seen posing naturally as they show off their wristwatches in front of the camera. The video ends with another group shot of the girls smiling and laughing, giving off a bright and lively atmosphere.

Aside from the behind-the-scenes video, Tiffany, Yoona, and Seohyun left video messages for the viewers, encouraging them to support Casio’s “Baby G” watches.

Casio has released additional information on Girls’ Generation’s endorsement of Casio’s “Baby G” line of watches for young women. The members of Girls’ Generation were chosen for their embodiment of the tough, cute, and cool concept of “Baby G”, a brand of watches which are meant to be shock-resistant. Girls’ Generation will advertise for the “Baby G” brand in South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia.

f(x)’s Luna Used Her Voice to Show Her Support for Hyoyeon


As part of Hyoyeon’s upcoming special stage on MBC’s Dancing With the Stars 2, f(x)’s Luna has recorded a cover of the popular song Way Back Into Love from the movie Music and Lyrics.

A source present at Luna’s recording for the song shared, “Everyone at the studio was taken aback by Luna’s extraordinary singing skills. Everything from her notes to the rhythm was perfect.” The source added, “You could clearly feel the feelings [Luna] had for her friend Hyoyeon.”
