Seohyun Fits to be a Snow White

Photos of Girls’ Generation member Seohyun holding an apple have some commenting on her similarity to Snow White.

Seohyun is getting attention for her surprising, fairy-tale-like charm in the pictures, taken during a recent photo shoot.

Wearing a fluffy pink dress and a silver headband, she definitely looks like she could be a princess from a fairy tale. People are saying that Seohyun has the look of a real-life Snow White.

Netizens commented, “Even when she’s not dressed up, she’s a true princess,” “I can see why guys like her so much,” and “Even as a girl, I recognize that she has a beautiful face.”

Seohyun is currently hosting MBC‘s ‘Show! Music Core‘ with fellow Girls’ Generation sub-unit TaeTiSeo members Tiffany and Taeyeon.

What do you think? Would Seohyun make a believable Snow White?

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! TaeTiSeo is the Cover Story for the July issue of “Teens” magazine

Just when you think that it is safe to venture out again into the big wide world; wham ! Singapore SONEs get hit with more TaeTiSeo goodness in the newsstands. Coming hot on the heels of their recent promotions in Korea, Soshi’s newest sub-unit gets featured in the July issue of “Teens” magazine, a Singapore publication that showcases the latest trends in the music and film entertainment industries.

As evidence of their success in the K-Pop music industry, TaeTiSeo has been given the privilege of being the cover story for this newest issue of this entertainment magazine :) .

In the article, the writer gives a glowing account of the successes of the 9 Soshi ladies in general, and focuses on the 3 “earthly angels” of TaeTiSeo in particular ;) .

Their musical style in this new mini-album has been liken to that of Stevie Wonder, a well-known musician/song writer and 80′s entertainment icon. Principal to this is “Twinkle”, the cover song and title of this mini-album. The writer also gives a glowing account of the other songs in this EP release from SM Entertainment, calling them sassy and trend-setting.

In fact, according to the article writer, the choice of songs in this SNSD sub-unit EP actually showcases the vocal abilities of the 3 Soshi ladies extremely well, a fact not lost to the music-loving public world-wide, as evidenced by the coveted Triple Crown win on all the major music programmes in Korea the month that they were promoting the album’s title song “Twinkle” :D .

The article finally ends with a short, sweet, but, oh so informative, “thumb-nail” analysis of our 3 Soshi ladies; a real joy to read indeed :) .

As a bonus, a review of the “Twinkle” mini-album is also included in this issue of the magazine, and I must say that it gives a really enthusiastic overview of this latest musical gem from Soshi and SM Entertainment.

So, without further ado, read-on for the verbatim magazine article itself and enjoy  !

Korea Yakult Releases New Girls’ Generation ‘LOOK’ CFs

One of Girls’ Generation’s latest endorsement deals is with Korea Yakult. In the spirit of the coming summer season, during the first week of June the company began revealing videos of each member promoting Yakult’s “LOOK” diet drink. Every girl has something slightly different to say about the product, so check out all the videos and their descriptions below:

Taeyeon starts by asking the viewers if they know that constant management is essential to dieting, which is the reason why “LOOK” is a good choice for a day to day diet routine. She also advises that some exercise helps improve the diet. At the end of the video, Taeyeon kindly asks viewers to experience “LOOK” for themselves.

Jessica observes that with summer quickly approaching, dieting season has begun. She encourages viewers to drink “LOOK” to help meet their diet goals.

In this CF, Sunny sympathizes with viewers, acknowledging that dieting can be difficult. But she encourages them to continue, saying that drinking “LOOK” once every day, along with exercising to fun music, will make the entire process quicker and less monotonous.

Tiffany starts by asking if viewers will be prepared when summer arrives. If they’re not, then “LOOK” is the way to go: it’s easy to get and easy to drink as well.

Throughout the video, Hyoyeon offers several tips for dieting. The first piece of advice she offers is to take pictures of your body while you are on a diet, which helps with keeping track of your progress and boosts motivation. She also advises that going out on weekends with family or friends, and even taking short walks helps with dieting. However, Hyoyeon says that the most important thing is to eat three meals a day and to make sure they’re balanced meals, and to not over eat. Hyoyeon ends the video by encouraging everyone to try hard, and that they can achieve a balanced and beautiful body.

Yuri cheers viewers on, telling them that despite all the hardships that come with getting in shape for the summer, the final result will be worth it. So don’t give up: by working out even a little bit everyday, a more beautiful self will begin to emerge.

Sooyoung, along with other Girls’ Generation members, is often asked how she keeps her figure with such a packed schedule. For her, drinking “LOOK” everyday along with exercising and eating well are all crucial steps to keeping her body healthy and slim.

Yoona spends some time discussing the ingredients of “LOOK”, which help suppress the intake of trans fats. She also explains how the drink can be delivered to the viewers.

Seohyun informs viewers that “LOOK” is promoting a twelve-week diet program. During that time period, participants may also receive support messages from Girls’ Generation. She encourages viewers who are curious about how much can change in twelve weeks to try the “LOOK” diet.

Jessica, Yuri, Sooyoung, and Seohyun Interviewed by ‘@ star1′ Magazine

On June 7th, the sounds of Girls’ Generation’s Yuri, Jessica, Sooyoung, and Seohyun’s laughter would not end in Cheongdam-dong. For the photoshoot for the July issue of “@star1″, they arrived an hour early at the hair and beauty shop, Soonsoo. Looking at the girls wearing hair rollers while getting their makeup done and chatting was just “twinkle, twinkle”. After hearing that Girls’ Generation usually likes eating yummy foods while chatting or shopping, I got an idea and decided this photoshoot’s concept would be “Girls’ Generation’s Fun Outing”.

On the day of the shoot, the girls had their own individual schedules, as well as the launching event for their collaborative perfume “GiRL” with 10 Corso Como that evening, so time was not on our side. Also, there was a heat wave in Cheongdam-dong, and fans were everywhere, and we had to change the course of direction and cue sheets constantly throughout the shoot because of the crowding fans. It was an overall difficult situation that was about to make the staff’s mentality collapse. However, unlike the staff, the girls were relaxed, saying, “It’s nice being able to shoot outdoors, getting natural lighting after shooting in studios all the time.”

The first cut was done in a bakery/cafe. As soon as she stepped into the bakery, Seohyun kept saying, “Oh my, it’s really nice,” and, even when nobody told her to, she started choosing pretty desserts and bread. She took a seat with Sooyoung at the Nocheon Cafe and started conversing with her. They acted so natural that you couldn’t tell if it was a photoshoot or their everyday life. Once outside the cafe, we shot photos of Sooyoung taking a walk with the Golden Retriever, “Aki”, and Bichon Frisé, “Bbyong”. “I normally like dogs, and have three dogs at home.” She looked loveable, kicking her feet, not knowing what to do, because she was so happy after seeing the dogs. Going on, we captured Yuri, Jessica, Sooyoung, and Seohyun’s natural appearances shopping while walking to and from 10 Corso Como and Tory Burch. “We couldn’t even think about it now because of our busy schedules, but we enjoy shopping in Cheongdam-dong with our members or friends when we don’t have any schedules.”
Like their words, they picked out pretty clothes for one another and smelled their own “GiRL” perfume scents. They looked like real sisters having fun. In between shoots, Seohyun would be absorbed in picking books from the book corner. Yuri, who said, “I usually like reading and listening to music at cafes,” enjoyed the peaceful sunlight at Noncheon Cafe. Known for her exceptional aesthetic senses, Jessica looked like she realized that time was flying because she was busy viewing drawings in the opera gallery. Despite the photoshoot starting in the morning along with the hot weather, we were able to complete the shoot thanks to the girls not frowning once but acting professional by smiling from start to finish. Girls’ Generation’s Yuri, Jessica, Sooyoung, and Seohyun’s hearts are just as pretty as their loveable faces. I want to take this spot to sincerely thank the girls.

At times like a child, at times like a girl

Q. The youngest, Seohyun, recently completed her activities as one of Girls’ Generation’s three-member unit group, TaeTiSeo. I think it would have been a lot different from when you were nine.

A. While it was the three of us in a unit, it was just as fun as promotions with all nine. Time passed really fast, and I was sad our activities were over. It was a burden at first. Because it went from nine members to three, the burden that came with the responsibilities we each had was no joke. However as time went by, I fell for the charms of unit promotions. It was a good opportunity for me to learn stage manners and other things.

Q. Watching TTS’s promotions, personally, Seohyun’s “aegyo mole” is what I remember most.

A. (laughs) I didn’t expect that to gain so much interest. It’s not really an aegyo mole, but I did it to give a twinkling appearance, but I think it looked like a mole to others. I’m glad a different feeling was delivered even when it wasn’t intended.

Q. Yuri received attention through her recent drama, “Fashion King”. It was actually your first take on acting, so how was it?

A. It was really hard and tiring. But, it was even more fun. It made me want to continue acting, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve lost my will as a singer. I watched TaeTiSeo’s performance on the [drama] set, and I was moving my body without even realizing it. I can’t help that I’m [a member of] Girls’ Generation. (laughs) When I’m active as a singer, I want to act, and when I’m acting, I miss the stage.

Q. What was the most intersting thing once the drama ended?

A. A lot of older women and men recognize me. It’s the first time they’ve treated me so pleasantly. It was different from when I’m a Girls’ Generation member. It was a different feeling. They recognize me wherever I go and love me. It makes me feel strange, but I’m still happy and like it. I think it’s the power of dramas.

Q. How was Yuri’s acting in your opinion, Seohyun? Appraise it honestly.

A. (Yuri, nervous, looked at Seohyun’s eyes from the side.) I was an avid watcher of “Fashion King”. She acted really well, making it hard to believe that it was her first time acting. My parents became bigger fans of her after watching her act. Not only Yuri unnie, but it’s fun and interesting watching the other unnies acting. It makes me think, “Should I try acting?” as well.

Q. I think Yuri gets prettier everyday. What kind of image do you want to grow into?

A. I got prettier? That’s impossible. I think I was prettier when I was younger. (All the staff members fussed, saying “No.”) There are times when I want to go back to when we debuted. (laughs) Right now, instead of hearing people say that I’m “pretty”, I want to hear “Yuri has her own color.” Instead of a pretty person, a person with a scent, doesn’t that sound really good?

Q. Sooyoung has become the MC of “Midnight TV Entertainment”.

A. I recently finished my first broadcast, but I was really nervous because it’s live. I guess I lost all my energy once the show as over? That’s what it felt like. But, as much as I was nervous, it was really fun and amazing.

Q. Sooyoung was also cast in the drama, “The Third Hospital”, and is busy filming…

A. As it’s my first time acting in a long time, it’s really fun. I went around auditioning to act before debuting as a singer, so I have big dreams when it comes to acting. My importance has gotten larger than before… My responsibilities are no joke, either.

Q. Listening to Sooyoung’s answer, it seems like you’ve gotten more mature.

A. (laughs) Does it? Hearing that… Feels nice. (laughs) Still, I think the size of my heart has gotten bigger than when I was younger. Because I experienced many things after debuting, I think I look at things in a wider light. I think I was a bit foolish when I was little. I don’t think I knew how to accept and act with all the responsibilities and things that were dropped onto me at a young age. Now, I think I’ve matured a bit in that aspect. I want to become a more professional person with a sense of responsibility.

Q. Yuri, Yoona, and Jessica have been going forth as actresses. In your opinion, Sooyoung, aren’t you worried about being compared to your fellow members?

A. Yuri and Jessica made their acting debuts through recent dramas. I think they did unbelievably well despite it being their first time acting. I think I can learn the good things [from them] and find my own individual personality. Being compared with someone else will only cause a burden, and I don’t think it’d help any.

Q. How is the summer for “Ice Princess” Jessica?

A. To be honest, I’m afraid of the summer. I’m scared physically and am already worried about how I’ll get through this hot summer. I’ve always liked ice cream and patbingsoo (shaved ice), so I think I’ll have to get through this summer with these foods. (laughs) I haven’t been able to make any special summer plans. Because we start promotions in Japan soon, I want to focus on that. I want to greet fans and the cool summer with good results.

Q. You’ve been enjoying a sweet vacation after your drama, “Wild Romance”.

A. I’m resting for a moment. I think of myself recharging. I’ve been taking this time, before promotions resume, to do things that I’ve pushed off, meet people I haven’t been able to, and reflect on my work and myself. I’ve been straightening things out seriously.

Q. After you, Jessica, many members have been appearing in dramas.

A. There have been a lot of individual schedules, and I’m cheering them on. Plus, I’m happy they’re all doing well. Members being able to show off their own personalitites in whatever area of work, I think that is Girls’ Generation’s strength. I, too, want to experience all other areas of work. I think then I will be able to find Jessica’s individual color and create my own personality.

Q. I feel like there have been a lot of individual activities these days.

A. There have been a lot of instances of individual activities. Still, that doesn’t mean we aren’t Girls’ Generation, does it? For us, whether it’s just one member that’s active, or all nine, it’s all being done by Girls’ Generation. Everyone’s been waiting for a performance with all nine of us for a long time, so we are planning on getting on stage after preparing thoroughly.

On My Mind: Sooyoung Discusses Fashion, Beauty, Music, Food, and More in ‘InStyle’ Magazine

Sooyoung was recently featured in the June issue of “InStyle” Magazine in a segment called “On My Mind”. She gave her thoughts on fashion, beauty, music, food, and much more.

The idol of the world, Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung. The music and foods she’s been into lately. And she’s revealing her beauty secrets.

“I think the most important thing in fashion is underwear. No matter how cool or expensive your clothes are, you have to wear proper underwear for that item to shine.”

My Bestseller… (Translator’s note: this is referring to the best book Sooyoung has read.)

“It’s my favorite of all the youth novels I have read (Translator’s note: Sooyoung is referring to the book “From Somewhere Afar the Phone Keeps Ringing for Me”, by Shin Kyungsook). People who are starting their 20′s should read it. It’s a work that really expresses what growing up is like.”

My best red carpet look in my lifetime…

“My white and black look during last year’s ‘Style Icon Awards’. While it can be seen as a common look, it has a refined touch, and it lingers in my memories more then the fancy dresses I wore at other awards ceremonies.”

The song I’m listening to on my iPod…

“I’m repeating American singer Demi Lovato’s songs the most. Even though she’s young and she’s an idol, her music is very mature and there’s lots to learn from her.”

A place I want to go for holiday one day…

“Instead of a modern and city feeling, I like places that have an antique and vintage feel, especially Switzerland, which makes a beautiful harmony with its nature and buildings.”

What I want to obtain the most…

“I fell in love with cooking, especially making cupcakes. So I want a mixer that can blend the butter (laugh).”

A beauty item always used before sleeping…

“Elasticity and moisture are the things to pay most attention to when it comes to skin care. So that is why I usually use face mask packs before I go to bed. Ah! Recently, I started looking after my hands and moisturize them as much as my face.”

The food that I want to eat the most right now…

“Cheongdam-dong ‘Siori”s (Translator’s note: an oyster house) oysters. Usually I couldn’t eat a lot of oysters, but I fell in love with them after eating that place’s fresh oysters. After squeezing lemons on the oysters and dipping it into the refreshing sauce, it’s really the best!”

Some of the notable events for Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun during their promotional period as Girls’ Generation – TTS included an conversation with DJ Isak on her radio show “K-Poppin”, a photoshoot with “K-wave” magazine, and a lengthy interview with “Elle Girl” magazine.

Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun Featured in Interview as First Korean Stars on ‘Elle Girl’ Korea Cover

The July issue of “Elle Girl” magazine featured a cover photo, photoshoot, and interviews with Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun. The piece began with a brief introduction.

It’s a photoshoot set that takes place every month, but the air is different today. This is because it is the first time “Elle Girl” Korea will have a Korean star on the cover. The special guests are Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun. With their lucid name, “TaeTiSeo”, they have been showing off their singing skills and have graced the cover of “Elle Girl” as their last activity as a subunit. Like a Saturday afternoon, the three looked bright and beautiful walking into the studio. Tiffany wore a flashy, patterned jump suit, while Taeyeon matched a boxy, white shirt with black shorts, and Seohyun wore a feminine, flower pattern one-piece. Their different outfits seemed to hint at their own personalities. After greeting everyone like a friend they met the day before, they began moving to their own rhythm. With her practiced hand, Taeyeon looked into the mirror to apply her base makeup herself, and like the fashion lover she is, Tiffany carefully checked the day’s outfits and didn’t forget to deliver an affectionate greeting to the photographer, Cho Sunhee. As if she was used to yielding to her older members in the order of getting hair and makeup done, Seohyun sat off to one side with her headphones on and quietly hummed along to her music. It was nice seeing their usual actions, not minding the surrounding attention.
After an hour passed, they were finished getting ready, and it was time for the girls to transform into pros. Taeyeon, who was like a cheerful girl with a makeup-less face, showed off a mature appeal wearing short shorts and red lipstick. Seohyun showed off her slim legs, and unlike her shy demeanor from when they debuted, she winked as if responding to the camera. After completing the solo shots, the three members stood in a line, smiling playfully for the cover shot. The way they leaned against one anothers’ shoulders and placed their hands on the others’ waists looked natural. Like the sparkle of a gem, the wisdom and accomplishments they’ve gained thus far in the time they’ve spent under the name Girls’ Generation made the girls shine.

While the staff was in awe over the three girls’ great smiles, Tiffany didn’t look all that satisfied. “I don’t like my hair, could we go again after I change it?” There wasn’t anyone who could talk her out of her loveable greed, as she was the one who was most enthusiastic about the shoot. We’ve spent well over six hours with Girls’ Generation – TTS, but we couldn’t find anything to envy or hate about the girls. Even during the interview, the three came together and talked about their heart-fluttering dreams and bigger goals they wish to reach in the future. Their heartbeats increase just thinking about their future. How much farther are these girls going to reach out?

Taeyeon’s interview:

Q: When you first heard about the Girls’ Generation – TTS subunit, did you think the three of you would make a good team? Could you picture the three of you performing?

Taeyeon: At first, I was happy, but also taken aback, because each one of us have our own music styles we adhere to (laughs). Fortunately, ‘Twinkle’ suited all of us.

Q: This promotion cycle was a chance for Taeyeon to show off her singing skills again. Were you happy being able to sing to your heart’s content? Was it burdensome at all, considering everyone’s expectations for ‘Girls’ Generation’s vocal line’?

Taeyeon: Like music is everything I have, I promoted enjoying it to the fullest. It was burdensome because we were promoting as representatives of Girls’ Generation, but I’m thankful that so many people loved us.

Q: To you, when was Tiffany and Seohyun’s most ‘Twinkle’-ing moment? Meaning, when they shined the most.

Taeyeon: Tiffany looks so pretty when she’s MCing on ‘Music Core’, as well as when she speaks English (laughs)! Seohyun shines more than usual when she’s wearing flashy jewelry, at an award show, and when she’s playing the piano.

Q: Will we be able to see another subunit from Girls’ Generation promoting in the future? Is there a subunit that you’re looking forward to by any chance?

Taeyeon: Our advantage is that, because we have so many members, we can create that many more groups. However, I actually haven’t thought about any other combinations. I guess I’ll think about it starting today.

Q: Before the shoot, I saw you applying base makeup yourself. Do you usually apply makeup yourself?

Taeyeon: I’ve applied base makeup myself since our debut days, just because it’s fun and comfortable. I have a lot of interest in makeup and own a lot of products.

Q: When do you like how your face looks the most?

Taeyeon: When I wake up? It’s just my opinion!

Q: I’m curious as to what kind of music you’ve been listening to as of late. Is there a musician you’ve gained lots of interest in recently?

Taeyeon: I usually choose music based on my condition that day, regardless of genres. I’ve been into English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and an American singer, The Ready Set, and I’ve been a fan of Bruno Mars for a while. I like how Bruno oppa’s sexy voice carries both sorrow and happiness.

Q: What’s your best way of enjoying music?

Taeyeon: When I start the day in the morning or when I’m cleaning my room, I loudly play exciting electronica music. It gives you energy. When we’re moving in the car or waiting for our next schedule, I always put on my earphones and focus for that short amount of time and listen.

Q: While you’re going back and forth overseas, you’re bound to bump into foreign stars or musicians. Is there a star that you were really glad to meet?

Taeyeon: We met Avril Lavigne while promoting in Japan. I was really nervous meeting her in person because she’s an artist that I’ve liked since I was younger. I told her I’m a fan and asked, if she gets the chance, if she could write a song for Girls’ Generation. She probably would have been taken aback as it was our first time meeting, but she coolly replied with an ‘okay’ (laughs). She could have just said that out of courtesy, but I felt happy.

Q: You could become exhausted both physically and mentally due to constant flights and activities overseas. How are you regulating your condition?

Taeyeon: I receive massages whenever I get free time. When I want to relieve stress, I also go eat sweet, yummy foods with my members.

Q: Girls’ Generation members have been doing individual activities in various areas lately. As the leader and fellow group member, was there a member who had a talent that surprised you?

Taeyeon: Because we’ve known each other for so long, we know each other really well. Just as I thought, my members are always the best at their own positions. They’re all so good [at what they do] that I can’t pick one person.

Q: Do you tell your family or people around you that you love them often?

Taeyeon: I don’t think I express those things well, but when I suddenly really do want to say it, I do.

Q: If there was a personality trait, tendency, or preference you have that you could change, what would it be?
Taeyeon: When something happens, I keep the worst case scenario in mind, so I feel I lack in optimism. I want to be a bit more optimistic. On the other hand, because I think of the worst case scenario, there is the upside that I can handle whatever problem calmly.

Q: What’s the most rewarding thing you’ve achieved as Girls’ Generation?

Taeyeon: Girls’ Generation’s solo Asia tour concert, our Japan tour concert, and appearing on the American talk show ‘Letterman Show’!

Q: Do you believe in destiny? Do you think of you being a member of Girls’ Generation, gaining this immense amount of love from all over the world, as coincidence, luck, or destiny?

Taeyeon: I believe it to a certain extent. I think me becoming a member of Girls’ Generation is destiny, and receiving so much love from all over the world is luck.

Q: Is there a person or incident that gets you excited lately? Right now, what’s a thought that makes you happiest?

Taeyeon: This question itself is making me excited (laughs). An incident would be Girls’ Generation – TTS’s subunit activities, a thing would be [my] car, and people, our fans. And my heart flutters and I feel happiest when thinking about what or who I may encounter in the future.

Tiffany’s interview:

Q: What did you like the most while promoting as Girls’ Generation – TTS?

Tiffany: More than anything, I was happy to be able to sing to my heart’s content. Also, from the draft proposal to the pattern and also styling, we took full participation in it. I personally chose this red hair, which reminded me of Nicole Kidman in ‘Moulin Rouge’.

Q: You have a lot of interest in fashion. Suppose Girls’ Generation were to collaborate with a Korean designer on their dress, who would you like to work with?

Tiffany: For this album’s ‘Baby Steps’ performances, we consulted with a designer we’ve always liked, Lee Jae Hyun, and produced our dresses. The next designer I’d like to collaborate with is ‘Steve J & Yoni P’! I usually like items with a wild and funky pattern.

Q: Do you organize your clothes as much as you like them? Or perhaps your clothes are scattered everywhere?
Tiffany: I’ve always been organized, but now my room is small and we’re going to move so the clothes are piled up. I am looking forward to a big closet in the new dorm (laughs).

Q: What is your key item for this summer?

Tiffany: I’ve always liked pink, to the point that the members call it a sickness. However, lately my hands have been automatically going to yellow or mint-colored accessories.

Q: Women will have bad days where they look in the mirror and say ‘I look fat,’ or ‘Whatever I wear, it doesn’t look pretty.’ Do you ever have any of those thoughts?

Tiffany: I know that feeling! It’s especially a big matter before I go to the airport. At those times, sunglasses or lipstick are the answer. When I am not satisfied with my look, I gain confidence when I put on red lipstick.

Q: It’s been several years since you’ve left Los Angeles and came to Seoul for your dream to become a singer. Does that once unfamiliar Seoul feel like home to you now?

Tiffany: The dorm definitely feels like home. However, I feel there are still many things I am learning in Seoul. I still get confused with Korean spelling. When I visit Los Angeles for just a few days, I feel so well rested.

Q: Girls’ Generation’s overseas activities are continuously increasing, and since you are going to foreign countries and you are fluent in English, there must be a lot of speaking opportunities as the representative.

Tiffany: At official settings, for sure, and also if I go anywhere with the members or with staff. When we’re deciding on the menu at a restaurant or when we go shopping, they all come looking for me. So my nickname is ‘T-manager’ (laughs). Because I’m always taking care of others, lately I’ve started a project to take care of myself.

Q: Do you look after the members’ individual activities? If you had to pick a member who is praiseworthy and you were proud of, who would it be?

Tiffany: Whether it was the filming set of a drama or a musical performance, I went once to all the places the members were doing activities. As expected from Girls’ Generation, whether it’s acting or variety, they’re all good at it. In particular, I think it’s really amazing that Hyoyeon comes out every week on ‘Dancing With the Stars II’ and completely exposes all her hard work.

Q: Do you, who always seems sweet and cheerful, ever get angry at anyone?

Tiffany: I get angry as much I’m happy (laughs). I’m meticulous and keen with work, so there are times when I feel sorry for the people around me. I discuss with staff when a schedule has changed or there is a costume change without any warning. I am a scary person (laughs).

Q: In a movie magazine interview, you said the person you respect the most is your sister. What kind of presence does your sister have?

Tiffany: She has been my role model ever since I was young. My sister is smart, studies well, is fun, and cooks well. She always does her best with whatever is given to her, and she’s good at everything. I’ve always wanted to be like my sister, and I think I would copy her.

Q: Taeyeon said your most ‘Twinkle’-ing moment is when you are MCing ‘Music Core’. Do you agree?

Tiffany: Yes! Having been an MC on a music show for three years, I’ve gained confidence in it. Also, I stand in the center on ‘Music Core’ (laughs). After an SMTOWN concert, when representative Lee Sooman said to me, “When you speak, it makes me smile with you,” I felt really good.

Q: I’m curious what you would be like in front of a guy you like or when you are dating.

Tiffany: I can’t easily approach a person I really like because it may reveal my true feelings. If I recall my past, I am the type to generously give a lot when dating. I don’t know how to calculate. So, I really want to meet someone who will love me as much as I love them.

Q: What thoughts make you the happiest?

Tiffany: Thoughts of the future. Right now I am living out the dream I had in my teenage years. Other members did not think we would be this successful, but not me. When I came to Korea, my resolution and dream was that big. Expanding into the United States or other dreams like acting do not seem that far off. Of course, the way to achieving those dreams is difficult.

Seohyun’s interview:

Q: I think other Girls’ Generation members would have liked and gotten jealous of Girls’ Generation – TTS’s performances. Which member monitored your performances the most?

Seohyun: Everyone liked and cheered us on, but Sooyoung unnie and Yoona unnie were our biggest fans.

Q: If you compare with when you were younger, you’ve been looking a lot more confident lately. Have you felt these changes?

Seohyun: Yes. Whenever I stood on stage or monitored [performances], I tried to find my flaws and work to supplement them. However, lately I’ve found myself just enjoying the moments I stand on stage. I’m also amazed at this side of myself.

Q: You sometimes appear innocent, sexy, or transform into a bad girl on stage as well. What do you do to pull these various charms out?

Seohyun: I look in the mirror, and as if I’m hypnotizing myself, I give myself confidence. I do image training while listening to music. I also learn by watching other people’s music videos.

Q: Do you really set your alarm and get up and read every morning? Do you really feel a good influence or change when you read books?

Seohyun: I can’t do that every day, but it is true that I read in order to live my ideal life and to find my own peace. I’ve been reading a book called ‘The Word of Nietzsche’.

Q: You’ve met Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Who is the next celebrity you want to meet? What would you want to ask if you were to meet him or her?

Seohyun: Beyoncé. She’s my role model as a singer. I want to see and learn everything from one to ten: how she practices and what she does to dominate the stage. If possible, I want to receive vocals lessons from her too!

Q: The flower-print one-piece and oxford shoes you wore to the shoot today suit you well.
Seohyun: Thank you! However, they were all inexpensive items. The one-piece was around 30,000 won, and the shoes were from Forever 21. (Q: Do you usually enjoy shopping reasonably?) I don’t really care for the brand. I purchase items that express and suit me well and buy items that aren’t very expensive.

Q: Earlier, while looking at pictures with Tiffany, you said, ‘I’m jealous of the charms you have, unnie.’ In detail, what are you jealous of? Also, what is a charm you wish to have that another Girls’ Generation member has?
Seohyun: Her plain, loveable charms! Taeyeon unnie’s witty personality and Hyoyeon unnie’s humor are traits I want to have.

Q: I feel like you would always have good posture and mind control. Is there anything that you became a ‘holic’ to beyond your own control?

Seohyun: Hm… a workaholic. There was a time where I only thought about work and neglected everything else. I think I turned my cell phone off and just focused on work.

Q: Was there a time where you were surprised after seeing a picture or broadcast with Girls’ Generation in an unexpected place?

Seohyun: When I saw our music video playing in Times Square in New York. I was really surprised, and it was like a dream come true (laughs).

Q: Girls’ Generation has been receiving international love. As a Girls’ Generation member, how would you describe this love in an adjective?

Seohyun: The love from our fans is ‘cozy’ and ‘unconditional’. If a single person was truly on my side in this lifetime, I think that life was a successful one. And so, I think we are living a very lucky life.

Q: You’re the youngest one in your team, but there are a lot of idol juniors who are younger than you. Honestly, which is harder, playing the youngest [in the group] or senior?
Seohyun: There are things that make it difficult being the youngest member and an unnie. I’ve been thinking that I have to show a good appearance to juniors as a senior lately.

Q: What was the most beautiful memory you have before you entered your 20′s?
Seohyun: My trainee days. I think the most beautiful memory is the time I spent with my unnies, sweating and working towards reaching the same dream every day.

Q: What do you think is your most ‘girly’ side that you still maintain?
Seohyun: The sensibility to be able to laugh while listening to music. It’s something I want to maintain in the future.

Q: Right at this moment, I want to know a thought that makes you happiest.
Seohyun: The thought of reaching the goals I’ve set, one by one.

‘Marie Claire’ Magazine Interviews Jessica and f(x)’s Krystal

Jessica and her sister, Krystal from f(x), recently took part in a photoshoot and were interviewed for the July issue of “Marie Claire” magazine, in which they discussed their loving relationship.

Girls’ Generation’s Jessica and f(x)’s Krystal being particularly close sisters is a fact that everyone knows. That skinship between family members will decrease is a universal fact for Korean families, but the two pretty sisters leaning against each other’s shoulders, hugging, and kissing each other on the cheeks doesn’t look awkward. It’s an unimaginable thing for me, who would run away when bumping into an oppa I went to middle school with in the hallway, but the two girls’ affection is loveable to the point where it makes me smile like a mother would.

Krystal: I normally don’t have any aegyo, and I have a blunt personality. I’m only like this to my sister. But if I do aegyo, my sister says I’m annoying and shoos me away.
Jessica: I really don’t like it, but she comes trying to give me a kiss, hugging me, and she does this until I accept it. Still, I think expressing feelings between family is good.

If Jessica and Krystal were to fight, who would win?

Krystal: Of course my sister would. Because there is a pretty big age gap, I was controlled by force when we were younger.
Jessica: I lose when it comes to strength now, so I win using skills.

Then if both of you end up liking the same guy, who would yield?

Jessica: That probably wouldn’t happen, but I think the types of guys we like are similar. If we see a guy who dresses well, we’d bicker saying, ‘He’s my style.’ But Soojung-ah (Editor’s note: Krystal’s Korean name is Soojung), I’m the u.n.n.i.e.

Looking at the sisters walk into the studio together, hair wet and smelling of shampoo, it made me wonder what it would be like having a sister. Washing together, wearing each other’s clothes, and then fighting occasionally. I heard that an older sister or younger sister’s presence becomes more apparent when you get older.

Jessica: Because we always played together, I get bored when she’s not around. However, I didn’t really like her when she was first born.
Krystal: Oh, this is the first time I’ve heard about this! Why?
Jessica: Soojung-ah, unnie (Editor’s note: Jessica is referring to herself) didn’t really welcome you at first. I was in preschool at the time, so I remember it all. My mom told me I would be getting a younger sibling. I felt a little anticipation at the time. It also seemed weird, and because I was always the youngest amongst relatives, I didn’t really like the idea of getting a younger sibling. I think I just experienced feelings that anyone else would.
Krystal: Whenever we fought while growing up, mom would always side with you.
Jessica: No, mom would side with you. Always calling you ‘My baby, my baby’.
Krystal: She was on my side when you were around and would be on your side in front of me.

Listening to these ordinary sisters chatting, I keep forgetting that these two girls are Girls’ Generation’s Jessica and f(x)’s Krystal. As you may know, these two are great sisters who are living as members of different idol groups, the heart of the powerful Hallyu, fashion icons, and rookie actresses (their mother must be so proud).

Jessica: Before being casted, the two of us had never thought about becoming singers. Both of us aren’t the types to run towards something we want to do, but rather will start something that comes to us as fate. And if I’m going to start this, I’m going to do it well. That’s my tendency. I didn’t have a dream when I was cast. This ‘something’ started when I didn’t have a dream.
Krystal: While we were walking around the mall, we looked behind us and someone asked us, ‘Where is your mom?’

And like that, the two ended up spending most of their time before their 20′s in SMTOWN. It was probably a difficult time, but fortunately, they remember it as fun, dynamic, and unforgettable days.

Soon, the film “I AM”, which has SMTOWN’s artists as the main characters, will be released.

Jessica: I was surprised. I almost wasn’t aware that it was being filmed, but they had recorded many moments. Memories fade away. It’s a relief there are records.

Along with Jessica and Krystal’s respective groups, Girls’ Generation and f(x), other SMTOWN artists such as Kangta, BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, and SHINee are shown from their trainee days to when they took the stage at Madison Square Garden in New York as a documentary. With the upcoming release, the poster with every artist as the main character was revealed. Looking at Jessica’s poster, it contains the message, “The seven years spent as a trainee flew by like a panorama.” Also, Krystal’s poster reads, “I like being me.”

If you’re a fan, you probably know already. Jessica and Krystal aren’t simply pretty, sweet, and cheerful girls. Even while talking about sushi or cupcakes, when work begins, they focus to the point where it’s scary, they say what they need to say, and they look straight at your eyes when talking to you. They remind me of the cheerful girls with strong egos in Jane Austen’s novels.

Jessica: Because I’m the type who expresses my opinions honestly, my first impression seems to be taken sharply. I’ve caused misunderstandings a lot, but I don’t try to change myself because of that. Isn’t being honest better than being fake? I just think they’ll get around to understanding my honesty some day.
Krystal: Guys don’t really like me. Guys like girls that are kind and innocent. I used to be innocent (laughs). Now I’m not. Plus, it’s not something I want.

For instance, rather than Jessica and Krystal being “Korea’s little sisters” that everyone loves, I think girls with mysterious and eccentric moods, like Kaya Scodelario, are more appealing. They have started to become people who think of themselves as appealing. On stage and on TV, you didn’t think they are sisters who look alike, but you can’t get rid of the fact that they’re sisters once you see them on stage together.

Krystal: I think little sisters can’t help but look like their older sister.

The similar charm between the two comes from their being carefree. It might even be in their genes.

Jessica: We both had that type of tendency when we were younger. But because I’m active as Girls’ Generation, there are just nine girls. Being amongst them, there are things that I have to match to a certain extent with them. On the other hand, there are less f(x) members, and because there are foreign members, I think Krystal could remain carefree while promoting.

These girls probably aren’t always Girls’ Generation’s Jessica and f(x)’s Krystal. However, regardless of which path they walk down, there doesn’t seem to be a high possibility for them to become the trouble member. The things these girls have done thus far, any tiring, heart pounding, and unbelievable experiences have created an aura that can be felt from these special sisters.

Jessica: Things have been working out the way I wanted them to. When we debuted, I wanted to become number one, and then I wanted to get the rookie award, and it’s still amazing how each thing actually comes true, one by one. I also thought of it as luck. There are already things I’ve started, such as acting and promoting overseas. The board we are on has become surprisingly larger. I wish I could show all my capabilities and charms, if they even exist. I hope I can keep having fun working and just continue to enjoy it.

Jessica and Krystal have also performed on stage together numerous times. The sisters performed Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” at the SMTOWN concerts in Tokyo and Los Angeles, as well as Katy Perry’s “California Gurls”.

Krystal: Our opinions didn’t even clash when choosing the songs. After deciding on having a joint performance, the thing we both thought of at the same time was that, right?

Since they were little, they went wild over the same musicians, collected CDs together, and eventually worked in the same area of work, so they have lots of things to talk about whenever they meet. Even if they can’t spend a lot of time together as they’re both busy, they always have their own chatroom on “KakaoTalk”, and they talk about anything in it. When will we be able to see the two performing together again?

Jessica: A long time ago, two sisters promoted as singers together as ‘something-something Sisters’, right? Because there aren’t any teams like that nowadays, I think it would be really unique if we were to do it. Plus, I want to show an energy that only comes out when we’re together.

Now, Girls’ Generation members and f(x) members combined creates a much larger number, but the energy shared by real sisters seems to be different. Then again, as the two share countless life experiences, it is obvious that nobody can invade their territory.

Jessica: Not too long ago, we went to where we were born, San Francisco. We went because of work. But still, I made time and ate lunch with Soojung, and because we were in my hometown, it felt nice. After debuting, we haven’t been able to go on vacations together because of the busy schedules. We went on a lot of trips with our mom and dad when we were younger. Since we lived on the West Coast, we vacationed a lot in that area. But we went up north to Canada once, and it was really nice then too.

The two are sisters with a five year age difference. Next year, Krystal finally becomes an adult too. When I asked what the first thing she wanted to do as an adult was, there was a short pause.

Jessica: Krystal doesn’t seem to have much interest in becoming an adult (laughs). Once, my members and Krystal watched an R-rated movie at our dorm. It wasn’t a really a weird movie either. It was ‘American Pie’. But Krystal went crazy, causing a fuss. I guess she thought she was doing something wrong.
Krystal: I think the unnies are really weird!

As a response, Krystal also revealed a secret about her sister. She said that the arrogant and chic Jessica’s room is a princess-y, pink-filled room.

Krystal: My room is absolutely not like my sister’s room!
Jessica: My room has a large mirror, and there is a lot of pink (laughs). On days I have off, I turn music on in my room and don’t get out of bed all day.

When doing photoshoots with other idol groups, I couldn’t help but notice competition between members wanting to look prettier than the member next to me, or wanting to stand in a better place, as they are things any normal person would feel. However, that type of atmosphere was not present on the set with Jessica and Krystal. Even though it was one of those days we were pressed on time, and it being a tiring shoot, Jessica and Krystal kept whispering to each other, laughing, and cheering each other on like that. However, while they are sisters, they are also another idol group’s member and artists under the same company. Have they ever felt competition towards one another?

Krystal: The type of music Girls’ Generation does and the type f(x) does is different. There’s no reason to, and we just don’t feel competition.

The relationship sisters have might be a lot more special than I thought. The reason why I thought about this on this day was because of an answer Jessica gave. I asked when they look the best. I expected the answer to be when they’re on stage, dancing under the spotlight, but the answer I received was quite different.

Jessica: Hm, when she’s sleeping. Because our schedules are different, we don’t see each other often, and so when I get home from work, I look in her room to see if she’s doing well. Sometimes I lay on the bed next to Krystal sleeping before leaving the room [to let her sleep]. She looks the prettiest when she’s comfortable, not thinking or doing anything, because her nerves are probably on edge, and she’s stressed while working.

Her words were correct. It’s more reassuring knowing when your family looks most relaxed over when they look their best. Jessica and Krystal are colleagues that give and receive inspiration from one another as artists, supporters who cheer each other on endlessly, and the closest friends in the entire universe, and I’m jealous of them.
