Girls’ Generation cashed in 70 billion won within the past 3 years

The revenues recorded by SM Entertainment’s artistes in the past 3 years have garnered huge attention recently.

According to the electronic disclosure system of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) on March 12th, through the disclosure data of SM Entertainment’s investment prospectus dated March 6th, it was revealed that Girls’ Generation have recorded sales revenue of 17.003 billion won in 2009, 30.044 billion won in 2010 and 21.737 billion won up to the 3rd quarter of 2011.

From 2009 to the 3rd quarter of 2011, the girls have garnered a total revenue amounting to 68.811 billion won. If 4th quarter of 2011 were to be included, it would have surpassed 70 billion won. The figure would go beyond the 100 billion won mark if Girls’ Generation’s Japanese activities were also taken into account.

Girls’ Generation’s total sales revenue of 68,811 billion won accounts for 42% out of the total revenue of 161.954 billion won among SM’s top 5 artistes (Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, TVXQ, SHINee and f(x)) within the past 3 years.

Who’s the Busiest Member in Girls’ Generation?

With domestic promotions for “The Boys” all wrapped up, Girls’ Generation’s time is now dedicated to individual activities.

In the past, idols and artists frequently took breaks in between promotions. However, in today’s music industry, the line between rest and activities is being blurred. Popular singers these days are showing their faces through individual performances and overseas promotions, even if they are not promoting in Korea.

Girls’ Generation are considered the leaders of the global K-Pop phenomenon, and they certainly don’t stay quiet for long.

It’s Time to Become Acting-dols – Yuri, Sooyoung and Yoona

Girls’ Generation’s tall members Yuri, Sooyoung and Yoona were the first to become actresses through dramas.

Yoona, who became the first member of Girls’ Generation to act in a drama when she starred in “You Are My Destiny” in 2008, will now act in KBS 2TV’s “Love Rain” with Jang Geunsuk. After a preview of “Love Rain” was revealed, many people began paying attention to Yoona’s fresh, pure, and college-like appearance.

Yuri and Sooyoung, who both appeared in the sitcom “Unstoppable Marriage”, will be making the leap and debuting as full-scale actresses alongside Yoona. Yuri will be appearing in the Monday and Tuesday drama “Fashion King”, playing the role of the chic and cold Choi Anna.

Temporarily shedding her stage name “Sooyoung of Girls’ Generation”, Sooyoung will be making her first acting attempt as “Choi Sooyoung”. She will be starring in the drama “The 3rd Hospital”, which is scheduled to broadcast on tvN this coming July. Though Sooyoung had a small role in the film “Hello Schoolgirl” in 2008 that officially started her feature film career, “The 3rd Hospital” marks the start of her drama career. In “The 3rd Hospital”, Sooyoung will be playing the role of Uijin, a violist, and is expected to be involved in a romantic storyline with fellow stars Kim Seungwoo, Oh Jiho and Kim Minjeong

The Powerful MC Line – Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun

Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun are currently MC’s for MBC’s live music show, “Music Core”.

Alongside her MC gig, Taeyeon also recently appeared in the SBS sitcom “Salamander Guru”, in a cameo role of a granddaughter of a wealthy man that owns a large business, where her formidable acting received a lot of attention.

Following Yoona, Seohyun appeared in CF’s for ‘The Face Shop” last year, while Tiffany has been making waves with her performance in the musical “Fame” and in various magazine photo shoots.

Resting for a While – Jessica

After acting in “Wild Romance”, Jessica is currently taking a break from activities.

In “Wild Romance”, Jessica played the chic Kang Jonghee, a positive yet challenging lead role. She has been reported to be one of the most active members of Girls’ Generation since they debuted. In 2009, Jessica was cast in “Legally Blonde”, making her the first of the members of Girls’ Generation to make a musical appearance, and thus starting a trend of musical debuts amongst her members.

Variety Idol Feeling – Hyoyeon

Sunny and Hyoyeon are currently making a big splash on KBS 2TV’s “Invincible Youth 2”, showing off their famous good natures.

In a recent broadcast, Hyoyeon was seen driving around in a calm manner, which gave her the nickname “Lee Soogeun of Idols”, and brought her one step closer to solidifying her character.

The Most Busy – Sunny

Sunny, who is being called Girls’ Generation’s spokesperson, is the busiest member of Girls’ Generation. Not only is she starring alongside Hyoyeon in Invincible Youth 2, but she is also the host of SBS MTV’s “Music Island”.

On top of her other activities, Sunny will be starring in the musical version of “Catch Me If You Can”, playing the hero of the musical, Brenda.

SM Entertainment has officially stated that “Sunny is the most active member in various areas”, and that “the challenge of a musical debut and emceeing is a big burden” for Sunny.

Yoona Attends Press Conference for ‘Love Rain’

On March 22nd, several cast and staff members from “Love Rain”, including Girls’ Generation’s Yoona, attended a press conference to commemorate the upcoming premiere of the drama. At the press conference, Yoona, who plays both Kim Yoonhee from the 1970s and Jung Hana from the present day, revealed, “I was a bit burdened and a bit nervous at the beginning for having to play two roles, but the director led me well and the other actors helped me a lot, so I was able to successfully act out my scenes.” Yoona also said, “I feel that this drama is very close to me, because I haven’t acted in a drama in two years. I really want to show to the viewers what I can do. I’ll work hard for the rest of the drama shoot.”

When asked about her first impression of Jang Geunsuk, the male lead in “Love Rain”, Yoona answered, “Even though I haven’t done much acting, all the male leads I’ve worked with have had a large age difference with me, so they were all very nice to me and took care of me very well. This was my first time acting with a male lead who was around my age. When I first saw him, I thought he looked very chic and cold, so I was worried that he might treat me with the same coldness that I saw in his physical appearance. However, since the first time we met until now, he never showed me such coldness, but instead treated me very well and actually lightened the mood at the drama shoots.” Yoona also showed how grateful she was to act with Jang Geunsuk, saying, “I am really thankful for such a kind oppa, and I’m happy that I got to meet him. I think that he’s an oppa who is well matched with a bright smile.”

Yoona also gave her thoughts on the fact that both “Love Rain” and “Fashion King”, a drama in which Girls’ Generation’s Yuri is starring in, air during the same time slot on the same day. She said, “Even though our dramas air at the same time, it doesn’t mean that we’re competitors. We monitor each other and ask about each others’ dramas. I hope that with this opportunity, unnie will have an easier path as an actress.” She also added, “Yuri unnie is a very passionate person, and she tries hard with everything she does, so I think that she’ll do well in this drama.”

Many of the other actors and actresses in the drama were also interviewed during the press conference. Jang Geunsuk was later asked about who his favorite member of Girls’ Generation was. He then pointed at Yoona and said, “Of course I like Yuri.” (Translator’s note: he spoke as if going to say “Yoona”.) Jang Geunsuk then said to Yoona, “I heard there is an actor you personally like,” to which she responded with “Jang Geunsuk”. He replied, “I also like Girls’ Generation’s Lee Sooman.” (Translator’s note: he gave a random answer as a joke.) Jang Geunsuk eventually stopped joking around, and said, “I love Girls’ Generation. I found an actress in front of a camera instead of a singer on top of a stage. I’m actually learning a lot these days from teacher Yoona.”

Actress Lee Misook, who plays Kim Yoonhee during the present day, said, “I’m thankful that Yoona is acting as my 70′s lifestyle very well. I too am observing Yoona in order to act out her lifestyle.” She added, “She’s very calm, ladylike, never raises her voice, and hides her emotions very well. Because I’ve been imitating how she behaves, a doctor I visited a few days ago for acupuncture said I have symptoms of an emotional disorder caused by stress and gave me a few acupuncture needles on my chest.”

During the conclusion of the press conference, Yoona finished by saying, “I hope that you’ll like our drama because we really worked hard and we will continue working hard. I also hope that you’ll recharge your emotions with ‘Love Rain’”.

Anticipation for “Love Rain” has been building since November of last year with the release of several previews and teaser images. The drama’s first episode will air next week, March 26th.

Check out videos of Yoona’s appearance at the “Love Rain” press conference below. News and fantaken images from the event can also be found in Soshified’s Photos Section.

Girls’ Generation to Sing OSTs for Members’ Dramas

With word spreading about Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon singing the OST for the MBC Wednesday/Thursday drama “The King 2 Hearts”, it seems that the other members will be participating in OSTs as well.

On March 23rd, through a phone call with MyDaily, a staff member of SM stated, “The OST for ‘The King 2 Hearts’, sung by Taeyeon, will be revealed on the 28th. Along with Taeyeon, other members will be showing their support for their acting members, Yoona, Yuri, and Sooyoung, through OSTs.”

Yoona will be starring in “Love Rain”, while Yuri has already been making waves with her role in “Fashion King”, and Sooyoung will be acting in the upcoming medical drama, “The 3rd Hospital”. Girls’ Generation members have plenty of experience singing OSTs, such as Jessica’s “Tears Are Overflowing” and Tiffany’s “Ring”. At this time, apart from Taeyeon, it is not known which members will be singing OSTs for the new dramas.

The reason why Taeyeon is participating in the OST for “The King 2 Hearts” is because of her connection with Lee Jaegyu PD, who is in charge of directing for the drama. Lee Jaegyu PD was praised for his work on “Beethoven Virus”, the same drama for which Taeyeon sang the emotional song, “Can You Hear Me”.

Jang Keun Suk tells Yoona, “I like SNSD’s Yuri the most”

Actor Jang Keun Suk recently teased SNSD’s Yoona.

Jang attended a press conference for KBS’s new Monday-Tuesday series Love Rain on March 22 at Lotte Hotel in Seoul. When Jang was asked who he likes the most among SNSD members, he replied, “I love SNSD. My favorite member among the members is Yuri.”

Yoona was also asked who she likes the most among actors. She replied that she likes Jang the most. But Jang made people laugh once more by saying, “I like president Lee Soo Man more.”

Jang added, “I love SNSD. While shooting the series with Yoona, I saw a different side of her as an actress. I want to thank her.”

Yoona said, “I have been acting with men, who are a lot older than me, so I was worried about Jang that he might be a little mean to me. But since the first time we met, he has been very nice to me and made the entire crew laugh. He is very bright and I like that about him.”

The series, which will feature innocent love in the 70s and trendy love in 2012, will start airing on March 26. Jang plays the roles of a art major named Seo In Ha in the 70s and a photographer named Seo Joon in 2012. Yoona plays the roles of a college student named Kim Yoon He in the 70s and a graduate student named Ha Na in 2012.

Sooyoung Talks About Fashion and Cooking in ‘InStyle’ Magazine

Sooyoung is featured in the April issue of “InStyle” magazine. During the shoot, she talked about her thoughts on Girls’ Generation’s worldwide success, her fashion, and even her new-found love of cooking.

“Honestly, the color I like the most is black.” Showing expert poses while wearing visibly showy colors of red, green, and blue, Sooyoung’s words were unexpected. “But today, there are a lot of colors other than black that I want to start liking,” she said, “especially the color of my lips (laughs)”, pointing at her lips. She then started puckering her lips while looking in the mirror, as if the dark crimson color looked awkward on her. “Because my skin color is on the dark side, I don’t wear items with bold colors. If I don’t match it well, it can look dowdy. But now that I’ve tried them on, there are a lot of colors that suit me, so I feel good.”

Girls’ Generation has become a pop icon after surpassing Korea and Asia and going on the American talk show, the “Late Show with David Letterman”, this past February. Like the lyrics to their song, “The Boys”, the world focused on them, and Sooyoung was always amongst them. ”When we got word of appearing on a show that I usually watched on YouTube, I was speechless (she said she went ‘kkyak’ and yelled inside at the time). I didn’t imagine we would be entering the US market just five years after our debut. I was just as nervous as during my debut.” However, as much as she has experienced and earned thus far at the young age of 23, that much more burden and responsibility have been following her around. Rather than getting to the greatest position, having to maintain their spot now is even more difficult, and it is something that Sooyoung and Girls’ Generation members know better than anyone else. “As time goes by, we’ve been able to realize that ‘being together, not alone’ gives us a lot of strength, as well as the fact that we’re able to be in the position we are today because we’re ‘Girls’ Generation’.”

Sooyoung, who has never had any interest in cooking, has been spending a lot more time in the kitchen lately. When asked what the reason was, she gave a random cute reply, “Because I really want to eat red velvet cupcakes that I had in New York.” She made it following a recipe she found in a video online, and they turned out better than expected, so she’s been attempting other things, too. “A few days ago, the spaghetti carbonara I made was a huge success. My mom said it tasted better than what they sell at restaurants (laughs).” When you look at her in this light, she is nothing more than a 23-year old young lady. Sooyoung had a happy smile on her face while she said, in an excited tone, that she would be making nine cupcakes for each of her members.

“Kate Moss said before she leaves to go out, she looks in the mirror to see what items she should take off. I completely agree with her. Taking away, rather than adding onto your style, is a lot more important and difficult.”
“Now that I’ve tried on a colorful item, I feel really good. I will have to choose a color that suits me this Spring. I’m getting excited already.

“Whatever I do, I’m the type that trusts and leaves things up to the person who has an expertise in that area. I was a bit worried if short hair would suit me, but, as expected, an expert’s touch is different!”

“I want to have a talk show that carries my name. Of course, the first guests of that talk show would be Girls’ Generation members.”

“The person who influenced my fashion the most is my mom. She attempted various styles and color items on my sister and myself when we were little (laughs).”

Tiffany Talks with an Editor for ‘Vogue Girl’ During Her Photoshoot

Tiffany’s appearance in the April issue of “Vogue Girl” also featured a staff account of the photoshoot by editor Jung Soohyun.

#1 West Hollywood

“So, should we shoot in my neighborhood?” She spoke lightly as if she was saying to a friend she met on the street by coincidence, “Come over sometime.” Tiffany, who appeared on “Late Show with David Letterman” and performed in concerts in France and Thailand, said that she was going to Los Angeles to meet her family members and friends. Right before she left for the 2012 Burberry Prorsum F/W Fashion Show, she received a short break of five days. Technically, she received four days and a morning, but she spent fifteen hours of that time with Vogue Girl. Moreover, she did not request for a room in the Chateau Marmont (translator’s note: a luxury hotel in Hollywood), nor was she accompanied by a manager. She just wanted to stay in her home with her family. She got on the plane two days before the other staff, and we decided to stay at a place near her house. Ah, I almost forgot: what was worse was that she spent the first day of her break dying her hair for this shoot. She changed the jet-black hair from her musical, Fame, to a bright orange-brown color. To be honest, when we heard from Tiffany’s hairstylist that she was going to dye her hair, I thought that was the most unrealistic aspect of this shoot. I actually repeated the question over and over again during the phone call. “Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany is really going to change her hair color for our photoshoot?”

#2 The Poolside

At 6AM on the day of the shoot, we were eating bagels and muffins on the first floor of our dorm. The make-up artist said that Tiffany was never the type of celebrity to be tardy, and that she would be at the lobby at the promised time. Indeed, she arrived about fifteen minutes early and started calling us one by one announcing her arrival (translator’s note: the staff members were still in their hotel rooms). Tiffany, who was wearing a pair of jeans, a short-sleeved shirt, and holding a Chanel Surf Bag, looked slimmer than during the promotions for “The Boys”. She revealed, “I lost a lot of weight during the musical, but I started gaining weight little by little as soon as it was done.” When I saw the white earphones in her hand, I was curious about what songs she was listening to. “I’m totally into electronic [music] these days. Usually I listen to David Guetta, Jessie J, Adele, and Rihanna a lot. Did you by any chance listen to ‘Give Me Everything Tonight’ by Pitbull? It’s a really addicting song.”

While she was getting her hair and make-up done, we decided to talk about today’s outfits instead of holding an interview. Tiffany had her eyes on vividly colored Juicy Couture outfits and said, “I like to wear them on a regular basis. They are lovely, easy to mix with other items, and the brand is always coming out with colors matching the current trend.” For a split second, I thought that she was the type of a person who could perfectly describe her preferences, like Gain of Brown Eyed Girls or Krystal of f(x). The stylist talked about how Tiffany’s airport outfit was so impressive, and how one time she wore denim shorts, a red-colored leopard chiffon shirt, converses, and matched a very pretty bag with fringe details to the outfit. The stylist also mentioned how Tiffany doesn’t decorate herself with expensive items, somehow finds amazing products that cost only $20, and, from time to time, also matches her own classical shoes to the items that the stylists put on her.

In between all these compliments, the first shoot started. When Tiffany appeared in the pool area of an urban vintage-style boutique hotel called “Farmer’s Daughter” with a red long dress and clad in a zip-up jumper of terry cloth, everyone started cheering. However, the editor and the photographer from New York interpreted the word “typical” differently, and the happy mood of the scene quickly turned cold. Fortunately, we came to understand each other fairly quickly and the poolside photoshoot breezed by. While changing out of her clothes, Tiffany said with a relieved expression, “Editor, did you see my expression with a question mark on my face?” She spoke with her unique voice and slightly awkward accent. “Everyone will feel better after eating Los Angeles’ In-N-Out burger.”

#3 Santa Barbara

We arrived at Santa Barbara a little before 1PM. The winter of Los Angeles was gray and cold in contrast to what we expected. Tiffany, who wore a sleeveless t-shirt and a thin one-piece all morning, started shivering. The Marina del Rey area with the yachts was especially windy. Even more, because the sun starts to set at 4PM, we started to worry about her condition. Somewhere from the yachts, we heard a voice calling for Tiffany. It was a group of auntie fans, which included her own aunt, that came to cheer for Tiffany in the photoshoot. As soon as her aunt arrived, Tiffany shot right back up as if nothing had happened. While we were waiting for all the people to get off the merry-go-round for the shoot, we started talking about our favorite designers. She said, “Which designer brand from the S/S collection did you like the best? I liked the Fendi or Prada I wore today, and Miu Miu, but I usually like a design that’s a bit bold and lovely, such as the styles of Blumarine, Blugirl, Betsey Johnson, Roberto Cavalli, and Emilio Pucci.” Indeed, this is an answer expected of a Los Angeles girl. “But recently I’ve been drawn to New York designers, like Peter Som and Prabal Gurung. They are great right now, but one day they will become the trend setters of the fashion industry, like Marc Jacobs and Raf Simons.”

Tiffany’s interest in fashion was not the level of boring bloggers who collect motorcycle bags from Balenciaga by their color. She was naturally interested in fashion because of her aunt, who herself also had a large interest in fashion. By the time she was a teenager, Tiffany was able to have a decent conversation with her aunt about designers. She also added that she didn’t have a specific role model, but that she thinks that stars like Blake Lively and Amanda Seyfried wear what really goes with themselves. “When I look at Blake Lively, I think that she chooses pants or skirts with the perfect length. They’re either short or long. She never wears a medium length skirt.” The talk about fashion went on until the shoot ended. We talked so much that I can’t remember all the details. When someone told her that her fashion style is similar to Vanessa Hudgens’, she said she hears such comments very rarely. Tiffany also said that she recently picked out Sooyoung’s birthday gift at Prada. “Do you know how well Sooyoung can pull off any outfit? She’s the perfect celebrity style who shines in an outfit of any shape and color.”

4. Night Out

The photoshoot ended past 7PM, when the sun had set. The group of auntie fans reserved a Korean restaurant in Koreatown for us. Tiffany, who said she gets sleepy after 6PM ever since she came to Los Angeles, was up and bouncing. She was even imitating the English pronunciation of a male manager (whose Korean was worse than Tiffany’s) who worked with the Los Angeles branch of SM Entertainment. Right before the meal, Tiffany tied her hair up into one ponytail. The hairstylist kept on telling her that she needed to use a lot of a Moroccan Oil treatment on the ends of her damaged hair. When I asked if she does her own hair treatments or skincare, the staff began to compliment her. They said that she does mostly home care because she doesn’t have time to go to a salon to get treatment. Whenever they mentioned “Smart Tiffany”, she laughed out loud as if it were nonsense. She said, “I do what I can with skincare. My skin is quite dry so I put on moisture packs or cream very frequently. I do my own hair treatment at home. Also, when I go to the airport, I remove my make-up as soon as I get on board, even if I went to the hair shop to get my make-up done for the airport. I like to put on make-up, but I think that as much as I like to put it on, I need to remove it as well.” Now that I come to think about it, Tiffany is the only member in Girls’ Generation who likes colorful make-up. She’s the only one who puts on lipstick with a scarlet red tone. “Actually, the other members rarely put on a strongly-colored lipstick. I do a lot of red lips at award ceremonies. I like vivid lipstick and smoky make-up. Only, you always have to keep your skin beautiful and fluffy. Actually, I’m okay with anything except the eye shadow colors that make your eyes look bloated.”

After this, the subject of the talk moved to Tiffany’s dream. She had a fantasy that one day, she would make an attempt in acting, and that she would have an opportunity to transform into someone other than Tiffany herself. She was willing to try any type of acting except for historical dramas because of her pronunciation. If one of the aunties hadn’t realized that we stayed there until an hour past the restaurant’s closing time, our dinner would have continued until after midnight. Right before we departed, Tiffany spoke while hugging us one by one. “I’ll take you all to Disneyland tomorrow. Just like you have to eat In-N-Out burgers when you come to Los Angeles, you absolutely have to go to Disneyland.” Oh my God! Speaking sweet words with a red face after a bit of beer, is this girl really Tiffany?
