Yuri and Yoona Receive ‘Popularity Award’ Nominations at ’50th Baeksang Art Awards’

Yuri and Yoona have been nominated at the “50th Baeksang Art Awards”, an annual award show which honors achievements in South Korean entertainment. Yuri received a nomination for the “Popularity Award” for female actresses in film with her role in “No Breathing”, while Yoona was nominated for the “Popularity Award” for female actresses in television with her role in “Prime Minister & I”. Last year, Yuri received the “Popularity Award” for female actresses in television at the “49th Baeksang Art Awards”.

This year’s “Baeksang Art Awards” will take place on May 27th at Kyunghee University.

‘Elle’ Magazine Features Sooyoung in Online Article About Celebrities and Their Pets

Editor’s note: “Elle” magazine recently published an online feature on “stars’ pets that raise their happiness index”. As an introduction, the article says, “There are stars who experience their lives changing and feel happiness through being together with animal companions.” Among the featured celebrities was Sooyoung and her three puppies: Suri, Cherri, and Mori. Below is what Sooyoung told “Elle” about her four-legged companions.

“Suri, Cherri, Mori” Trio

These days, every day is really joyful. Maltese Suri, Yorkshire terriers Cherri and Mori: living with those three dogs together has changed a lot of things in my life. I learned to love, got to know the meaning of looking after someone, and received a sense of responsibility as a gift. When I make the three kids (Editor’s note: “kids” refers to the puppies) take a bath after a stroll, I feel like I have become a mother. Even though I am out of my mind when they’re running away or joking around, whenever I take out the blow dryer to dry their fur, I feel proud when I see them becoming dry and fluffy. Even though the reason I met them was to soothe the sadness and emptiness after the loss of my dog, Jjangi, that I raised before, they are now undeniably my friends and babies.

Girls’ Generation Places Fifth in Annual Gallup Korea Poll

In Gallup Korea’s annual year-end poll ranking the artists who made this past year shine, Girls’ Generation took fifth place overall with 8.3% of the vote. Cho Yongpil received the top honor with 17.6%, PSY placed second with 11.7%, Jang Yunjeong came in third with 8.8%, and EXO was ranked at fourth with 8.4%. There were 4,263 voters in total and all were at least 13 years old.

Last year, Girls’ Generation was ranked second in the Gallup Korea poll, and from 2009 to 2011, the girls held the top spot. With the release of “I Got A Boy”, both a Japan and world tour, a number of Japanese releases, and many more individual activities this past year, Girls’ Generation continued to be a leader of the Hallyu wave worldwide. Meanwhile, on December 22nd, Girls’ Generation held its “Märchen Fantasy” concert where a teaser of Girls’ Generation’s next comeback concept in 2014 was revealed, causing excitement among fans and the public alike.

Taeyeon, Jessica, Sooyoung, and Yoona Rank on Independent Critics List of 100 Most Beautiful Faces

TC Candler has released the “Independent Critics List of the 100 Most Beautiful Faces of 2013″, which lists Taeyeon, Jessica, Sooyoung, and Yoona. Jessica was the first member of Girls’ Generation to appear on the annual ranking in 2011, placing 45th, and moved up to 5th in 2012, when Taeyeon and Yoona made their first appearances at 42nd and 50th, respectively. This year, Taeyeon, Jessica, and Yoona again are ranked on the top 100 at 9th, 20th, and 71st, respectively, while Sooyoung makes her first appearance on the list at 66th.

The “Independent Critics List of the 100 Most Beautiful Faces of 2013″ comprises women from 34 countries who are chosen based on grace, elegance, class, poise, joy, promise, and hope, beyond simply aesthetic perfection. The ranking has been published annually since 1990 and recently has received close to 40 million unique visitors from around the world.

Yoona Nominated in and to MC for ’2013 KBS Drama Awards’

Yoona has been nominated in two categories, “Best Actress” and “Best Couple” (with her co-star, Lee Bumsoo), at the “2013 KBS Drama Awards” for her role in “Prime Minister and I”, which is currently airing Mondays and Tuesdays on KBS. Yoona plays Nam Dajung, a photographer and reporter for “Scandal News” who gets into a scandal herself after meeting the nation’s newly elected prime minister, played by Lee Bumsoo.

Yoona will also host the “2013 KBS Drama Awards” alongside Lee Misook, Shin Hyunjoon, and Joo Sangwook. The award ceremony will take place on December 31st at 8:30 PM KST.

Girls’ Generation Recognized as First Korean Girl Group to Rank Twice at #1 on Oricon Weekly Chart

Girls’ Generation’s third Japanese album, “LOVE&PEACE“, recently ranked first on Oricon’s December 23rd weekly album chart by totaling 129,000 sales. Girls’ Generation’s self-titled debut Japanese album, released in June of 2011, also ranked first in the weekly album chart, making Girls’ Generation the first Korean girl group to have two albums place first on a weekly album ranking, surpassing KARA.

The successful “LOVE&PEACE” album totals twelve songs, including past singles such as “GALAXY SUPERNOVA” and “LOVE&GIRLS”, while also debuting six new songs. Meanwhile, Girls’ Generation’sthird Japan tour will begin next April, and the girls’ “Märchen Fantasy” concert for “SMTOWN Week” will take place this Sunday on December 22nd.

Girls’ Generation Nominated in Three Categories for the ’28th Golden Disk Awards’

Girls’ Generation has been nominated in three categories for the “28th Golden Disk Awards”: Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and the Popularity Award.

The awards ceremony will be held in the Grand Peace Palace at Kyung Hee University on January 16th, 2014, from 5:00 PM to 8:50 PM KST. Winners of the awards will be decided based on voting, album sales, and judges’ opinions.

In the past, Girls’ Generation received the Digital Daesang at the 2009 “Golden Disk Awards”, the Disk Daesang in 2010, and the Digital Daesang in 2011, thus receiving the honor of being the first girl group to win for three consecutive years. Last year, Girls’ Generation – TTS was also nominated for three categories at the “27th Golden Disk Awards“.

Nominees were selected by PKCI's affiliate FCs, and the final candidates were those with the highest votes.

Alcon Renews Endorsement Contract with Yoona

Alcon, a contact lens brand, has renewed its endorsement contract with Yoona for another year. Yoona first became a model for CIBA VISION, a subsidiary of Alcon, in July of 2012 and released several CFs and images for the “DAILIES” and “FreshLook” brands. She has since become an endorser for Alcon Taiwan.

Yoona’s new advertisement shoot for Alcon finished last month, and CFs will begin to air in January of 2014. Yoona will also continue to be active in Taiwan for Alcon.

‘My oh My’ Reaches 10 Million Views on YouTube

“My oh My”, Girls’ Generation’s most recent Japanese release, has just surpassed 10 million views on YouTube. The music video was unveiled earlier this month, and less than four weeks later, it has managed to gain an incredible amount of popularity.

This latest achievement is just one of many on the list of Girls’ Generation’s music video accomplishments. Earlier this year, the video for the girls’ iconic Korean song, “Gee“, passed 100 million views. The Japanese music video with the most views is currently the dance version of “MR. TAXI“, which now has over 80 million.

SK Telecom Holds LTE-A Launching Event with Yoona and f(x)’s Sulli

On November 28th, Yoona and f(x)’s Sulli took part in SK Telecom’s LTE-A launching event. Yoona and Sulli are just two of the many SM Entertainment stars that endorse SK Telecom’s LTE data service. The event was held as a demonstration for the new LTE-A service. Girls’ Generation Announces Third Japan Tour

Girls’ Generation will be holding its third tour through Japan beginning in April of next year. The tour is currently scheduled to visit six cities for twelve performances. Girls’ Generation’s second Japan tour concluded earlier this year on April 21st, after visiting seven cities for twenty performances.

Seohyun Cast as Lead Role for ‘Moon That Embraces the Sun’ Musical

After receiving her first leading role in a drama earlier this year for “Passionate Love”, Seohyun will now be making her musical debut in “Moon That Embraces the Sun”. Seohyun has been cast for the musical’s female lead and will play the role of Yeonwoo. Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, Seohyun’s labelmate from SM Entertainment, has also been cast in the musical and will be playing the male lead role, King Lee Hwon. The musical will begin in January of next year.

“Moon That Embraces the Sun” was recently adapted as a drama last year in 2012. Starring Kim Soohyun as King Lee Hwon and Han Ga-in as Yeonwoo, the 20-episode historical drama proved to be extremely popular and won multiple awards.

Yuri Attends ’34th Blue Dragon Film Awards’

On November 22nd, Yuri attended the “34th Blue Dragon Film Awards” at Kyunghee University’s Hall of Peace. Presented by Sports Chosun, the annual awards ceremony celebrates excellence in film in South Korea.

Yuri arrived looking absolutely stunning with a elegant dark blue gown. She took the stage to present the “Most Popular Film” award alongside Johannes Thammer, the managing director of South Korean operations for Audi Korea at Volkswagen AG.

2AM’s Seulong posted a photo of Yuri, MBLAQ’s Lee Joon, and himself on his Instagram account. The three idol actors took the photo together while all doing a V-sign pose.
